So I am in the market for a new front light for my road bike.  I am going back to varsity on 3 January, and will be be doing lots of pre-traffic training rides in the dark.  I need a front light that is bright enough so that I can see and be seen.

Would really appreciate some guidance with regards to the best front and rear bicycle lights :)

You have your answer as above.  All good lights.

Now you need to choose what you can afford.

They are in your area so would not go further with this if were you.

I reckon the best lights for front and back come from Cycliq, the Fly6 rear and the Fly12 front.

Oh, and both include a HD video camera.

400 lumen is a touch on the dim side...

1000 lumen is about right to see where you are going in pitch darkness... more is nice but you get complaints from oncoming traffic

400 lumen is adequate where there are street lights. And as OP is from a town with a long serving DA council I assumed the lights would be on.  You might have to wait a few more months to see the benefit of Herman's service delivery before binning the 1000 lumen lights.

Like it has been said above, locally extreme lights ftw but if you are able to wait a while then aliexpress or lightmalls from the far East is a lot cheaper. I have bought lights from both and am very happy with them. But delivery time is hit and miss unfortunately, you definatley won't get it before going back to varsity.
