If that was not so sad it would be hilarious

Grief, an Orangutan!!

Were these kept in private estates (ie) Residential? Surely that cant be legal, especially an Orangutan.

The Baboons may survive if left to their own devices but I am not sure about the Vervets, surely they will be killed by the resident wild Baboons if they make it into their territory.

As for the Orangutan..............cant see it surviving, its not found locally and its a big powerful animal,..... it can only end badly for this poor creature.

the animals were  on an agricultural estate. they were rescued animals from other areas in the country. this was kinda of a haven for them before they go onto heaven.

when the fire came they had enough vehicles to move the animals but they were struggling to dart them fast enough. coupled with the fact that law enforcement would not let extra darters onto the estate a call had to be made. Take a chance and they die from either smoke inhalation or burnt. Or just open the gates and give them a fighting chance and hope they could be caught later.

happy to say most have been caught, there was no o'tang to begin with

and on that note, that's me. the blooding wind flared things up in rome glen area. wind is blowing crazy up their, but calm down here (sort off)

could not move sand fast enough. but lucky a helicopter to the rescue. just gave us the edge of being able to put out embers before they got going again.

but now the fire is well and trully on lourensford/vergelegen. no homes threatened. it is time to leave the fighting to the pro's.

@philip .... you should be safe. If not ..... who you gonna call ?

well the last chopper refueling is happening on the school field down the road.

it is now someone else's fight, unless Philip  or patch (his folks) need a hand.

I have no contacts with Vergelegen other than the SWNW radio. Might go on patrol with FiL just to make sure looters are not about or more people starting fires in their little suburb parks to rid them of vegetation.

My friend lives in the Rome Glen area.

She says they are constantly fighting flare ups.

you have no idea how hard it is up there, but the choppers have hopefully put it out.

We're sorted if this wind prevails. The fire line is pretty far from us now. Thankfully the smoke is better as well.

Lourensford and Vergelegen are taking huge shots. Those farmers are in for a rough night as well.

Seeing the community and farmers band together is amazing. It reminds me of the Simonsberg fire last year.

Eish, hectic stuff. Just got home and busy catching up.

Was Monkey Town affected?

Is there enough guys fighting the Fire? Could I assist in doing this?

thanks eddy - but becuase it is now well into the big wine farms they have their own teams and stuff. VWS are also there. The only worry now is the evening wind and the smoke with all the horses at louresnford from SLP. This time though everyone is waiting with their horse boxes and it is alot more organised
