* I don't have a bike for sale on any site

Shall i just try to con him and use the money to pay back some of the people on here?

Please explain how he got you to cash send him R700? You still had the item?

This sounds like school fees.

Popular scam. They overpay you for the item, using a cheque deposit that will bounce. But in the meantime, you transfer the extra back, cheque bounces, and boom. You're out of the item, and cash on top of that.

Bastards deserve castration.

Thanks Drago for explaining!

With my folks finally retiring from estate agency a few years ago we had plenty of scammers and con men. The one day my dad was not paying attention and being a little too trusting, picked a guy up at the station to show him the house, then he liked it wanted to get a deposit from an ATM, my dad took him there. Then his friends arrived with some diamonds, then instead of a deposit, wanted my dad to buy the diamonds and needed or a do a part exchange for rent. Then my dad finally clicked, (This time three of them were in his car) he just drove up to a police station, and sat on the horn. The guys made off pretty quickly.

My mom gave him an ear lashing for being so doff. He never picked up anyone or helped tenants out. In the end they were taking 2.5-3 months rent in advance as a deposit, EFT no cash.

Had a similar intend where someone wanted to buy a bicycle from me on the hub when I had nothing for sale. . . .   not anywhere.

It happened just after I posted an ad in where I was looking for 2nd hand Campy brakes.

There is a variation to this diamond scam. They approach you to organise you to transport diamonds for them. You pay them some money to get the diamonds from them, and you provide them your phone number, while they provide you with a contact that will give you double what you paid when you deliver. Except, it's not diamonds, and the contact is fake.

Not that you'll get any money. This guy is also a scammer, and targets motorcycles. Here's the message I received from him:

Thanks for the response! i'm interested buying this for my son but only if you can assure me it's in a good condition and please send me more some pics? note well: Pick up agent will come for the pick up as soon as i have made the payment

Disappeared very quickly when I said I wouldn't deal with any 3rd party agents.

This sounds like school fees.

Apollo said the extra R700 was because he'd accidentally given me too much money, but he was paying me through his company, so unless I cash-sent him the extra R700, they'd stop the whole transaction leaving me without the R4200 I asked for for the goods I had for sale.

I also got the fake SMS's saying that Apollo had deposited two amounts of money into my bank account.

If you could bust this guy's chops, that would make my year, personally.

If they rig so that you can sent then money, in other words there is a bank with a bank account number that they use.

Can the bank not be alerted as to this fraudulent activity?

Even if the funds are removed before the account can be frozen, freezing it will mean  the'll have to come in and open a "new fake account"  to continue with their activities.

Or am I missing something?

Anything to make life difficult for them or to expose them.
