In general it is.

5:30 in the morning.

You have two three choices.

  1. Be pissed off.......*** a cyclist out for being wrong.....try to kill him on your way passed
  2. Wait a bit until it is safe to pass, wave at the people and enjoy your day.
  3. Pass him safely, make mention that he should rather move over, get shat on and then flamed on the Hub.

People need to relax a bit. - You too dude :)

Noted.

I'll go see if I can find some MTB shoes at the shop.

Ask yourself the question:

Do you think the average South African motorist or Taxi driver, gives a crap about your legal right as a cyclist?

Nope, but if you are all single file and out of the road, do you think the motorist will wait behind till it is safe to pass, or just squeeze past and if something comes around the blind corner just pull into the cyclists.

If you are in a group, the motorist has to pass you, they know running over a cyclist takes more time than actually passing when safe to do so.

Sort of like making a motorist engage his common sense for him.

No.  Most motorists do not even know what cyclists rights are. And this is where we need to be realistic about our safety.  Because being right doesn't help if you are dead.

we actually lost a club member on that road in the yellow lane.

Very sad day.  I cycle past there every day.

Impatient driver passing on the left side in the yellow lane if I remember correctly.

Aaaaa...but Patchy.....you for get one thing......it is a REaction.

For it to be a REaction, there first had to be an ACTION.  No?

A cyclist does not swear at a motorist just because he feels like it.  Never ever happened in my 25 years of cycling in and around Pretoria.  Never.

The only swearing takes place when there was an ACTION from the motorist FIRST.

And that is where the 3 stories comes in and who's is longer and thicker and why don't you ride on the gravel and why warra warra warra.....

Wait.  Safe.  Pass

Smile and wave.

Yes it does, its called OVER REACTION. Happens a lot.

I see it with my buddies often, ride 2 abreast, car hoots as it goes by, cyclists knows they were being a tad inconsiderate, instead of acknowledging the fault, they rather flip him the bird and shout some obscenity.

Please lets not pretend that cyclists are incapable of over reactions.

Passed there soon after it happened before any emergency vehicles arrived.  I could not see into the ditch as we were approaching from the other side.  All I saw was a bakkie in the ditch and only thought it was a vehicle that went of the road and the people standing there did not seem too stressed.  Renate and I passed.  Later found out what that a cyclists was hit there.

The OP would do well to better understand the rights and rules of road use.  The expectation that cyclists should use the yellow lane and that there is such a thing as a "driving lane" are both misplaced.

This could have affected the tone of their interaction with the cyclist, so eliciting the time-honoured response.

Always best to see what you could have done better.

I guess each to his own.  I don't know why some people need to be opinionated.  Why do some people HAVE to say something.

Me......I drive off into the sunset and listen to good Rock n Roll in the.  Cyclist holding me up for 1minute does not evoke enough emotion in me to come have a uitkak parade on a public forum, let alone winding my window down and giving them my own thoughts.

But that is what makes this world such a marvellous place.  Imagine how boring the world would have been if everyone was like me.  :whistling:  :D  :P

Remember, that was a REaction to an action, motorist must have deserved it.

Everybody has an opinion about everything. You have an opinion about this very thread.

People don't HAVE to say something every time, but if they do, and they are not being rude, surely we as human beings don't have to over react like rabid apes.

We are a society, we are not farm animals!
