Honestly with the announcement of him going to DDD I really thought he would try a stage win or 2.. (the Vuelta isn't over yet and there is still chance) DDD desperately need WT points and if he could win a stage or place high then those points would carry over to DDD.

Maybe he is indeed ill and is just trying to recover a bit until he is able to go for a win.?

AFAIK your thinking is incorrect.

when Cav won 4 stages at TdF, it counted for didley squat come end of season WT sums. okes with 8th place GC was worth more.

There are so many young GC riders .. competition is fierce..

I know, but I don't understand why the benefit of being young is only being gifted to Louis?

We shouldn't  let our (me included) bias make us oblivious of the fact that he isn't the only one.

Correct.

Doug's approach was good.

Get a young African team to WT, be the underdogs and get public support, then bring in some big names to get a a few stage wins to get your name on the map, now its time to secure those vital WT points to stay on the WT. Louis getting a top10 GC at TDF should bring more points than all of Cavs wins from what I remember?

Yes GC counts for a lot. .but as they don't have a GC guy that means they need to score as many points where ever they can.

This they are currently doing by sharing a sponsor with ASO, amazing what that can do....

Imagine DD sponsoring the TDF but no Team DD riding... LOLs

Yip. . Now it's time.

Meintjes received 275 points for his GC classification at the TDF..

Kittel received 600 points for his 4 stage wins at the TDF.

Doug was taking that dimension data has a 3 year deal with UCI for WT status. So they do not have to care about WT points, they cannot lose their spot for another 3 years. So they are guaranteed to be at all world tours till 2021.

When they changed the WT format I read that the WT teams of this year have I think 2/3 years guarantee WT status.. there after the bottom 2 will be relegated.. BUT I am not sure how the scoring will work..do all their points carry over to next year.. because you can imagine how many points a team like QS will have accumulated at the end of the term.

They probably use the same system as whose line is it anyway? The points are made up and the scores dont matter.

what's he on? (apart from his bike, obviously)

It was mentioned during TDF, EUR1.6mil but the term as unspecified.

Guesstimate of 500 000 - 600 000 EUR per season.

Mmm wonder if a new team will come in or a Pro Conti team will be promoted.

Anyhow. . Back to the Vuelta which starts soon..

More about that climb

http://www.dangerousroads.org/europe/spain/6934-los-machucos.html

Los Machucos is a mountain pass at an elevation of 923m above the sea level, located in the Autonomous Community of Cantabria in northern Spain. It’s one of the steepest roads that a Spanish bike race has ever tackled where you directly ride against uphill over a huge rock. The climb is brutal: up to 31%.

The road to the summit is asphalt but the steepest section are on concrete. Expect a narrow road, with several hairpin turns. Do not travel this road in severe weather conditions. Avalanches, heavy snowfalls and landslides can occur anytime, being extremely dangerous due to frequent patches of ice.

Starting in Bustablado, the ascent is 9km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 698 meters with an average gradient of 7,76%. The highest gradient is 24%. And starting in Los Barrios (Calseca), the ascent is 5.21km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 560 meters with an average gradient of 10,75%. The highest gradient is 31%.

It'll warm @Dale up but it would kill me.

'shouldn't be attempted by novice drivers'. Hope it doesn't rain or this could be a disaster like the Angliru a few years back
