Sadly you MUST plan ahead .....

Small cooler box is the way to go.

Freeze a 350ml bottle of water, and use that as your cooler block.  And on a hot day you also have back-up water.

Here is my typical day-pack:

9:00 snack  (I have breakfast at 6:00 at work, JIP, I do the early shift)

Appel and Rice-cake with a slice of Melrose

12:00  - Lunch

2 slices of whole wheat bread (Low GI Dumpy or similar, helps to rotate to different brands)

Cheese, mostly cottage cheese, Gouda as a special

Ham or similar cold meat

Lettuce or similar

If I know I will be out to sites, I make the sandwich ahead of time.

15:00 - snack time

200ml of Jogurt

R30 for the jogurt for the week

R20 for the Ham for the week

R10 for the lettuce for the week

These are bought Sunday and packed intot he cooler box each day

Eating healthy takes planning, not money.  And if you forget to plan it becomes VERY difficult to buy healthy food along the way .... no wonder we look the way we do.

PS - this works for ME, on a VERY light exercise program !!  Serious athletes would obviously pack more for the day, depending on their exercise routine ....

PPS - once your body gets used to these small portions you better plan ahead and have food ready for the regular snacks .....  small container with nuts in the computer bag has saved me when meetings run late ....  THIS is probably one of the down sides of diabetes ....

Now add into this mix going on a business trip for three days, having no control of when food is served etc .....  Mini-rice cakes, and Lite-energy-bars to the rescue ...

Buying my goodies on a Saturday or mostly on a Sunday, it is just so much easier to pack in each morning.

Hang in there, by week three it becomes easy !

That old chestnut of it takes 21 days for something to become a habit, has always been true!

been battling with my knee while riding ol miss daisy on the trainer...top right side of the knee...only while on the trainer... checked the other bikes... raised the saddle 10 mm and moved it forward 5 mm...what a difference...straight away it felt like the left pedal was not running straight...did some checks and found the BB is %^&$ so there is a lot of movement side to side...ol miss daisy needs so love...shame she gets abused on the trainer.

Yip even spinning bikes need constant maintenance . I had a similar problem with mine and could feel it when spinning hard .  All your bikes must be set up very similarly or if possible the same .

Awesome to have guys who are committed to help each other.

Each achievement no matter how small is making a deposit in your savings account.

98 kg...and smiling...loving these double figue readings on the scale :)

had a good ride yesterday...with a strong NE out to balito..."paceline" something we need to learn to do...i just sat at the back wheel sucking and watched the fellas in the front working :)

had to bail 30 km into the ride today due to a slit in my back tyre...lesson learnt from it...carry a R10 note to put inside the tyre to get you back to your vehicle/home.

it's a bit sucky when something gets in the way and puts a spanner in the spokes. but still, good job.

500km in 1 week while eating junk and I gained weight. Went back to clean eating after that and weight came down again, with much less time on the bike.

Eat clean and cut out the junk carbs and you will loose weight and maintain it.

What he said. Started to slip on my clean eating and could see it on the scale. Went back on my clean eating and immediately started to loose the weight again.

Its thats simple. Eat healthy.... and you can eat lots...

Well done on your weight.

Wheel sucking for 70km ? Not going to help you get stronger. Get out in front and suffer abit, will help build strength in your legs.

I noticed you were in the front coming back from Balito...and i see you climbing jacobs ladder like a boss...well done.

yip...since the hill2hill i have got lazy...i tend to hang at the back more often.

our B group needs to practice the paceline...it was interesting watching how the guys jump from the middle to the front...then leave the bunch behind...I still have a lot to learn.
