The reason why I shopped for a station waggon where I can fit the bikes inside of the car.  Will have to alert the folks to check if they load the cycles on the VW Polo

Did the same with a buzzrack, your clips weren't hooked in properly and you opened the door. Well that's what I did atleast...

This.  Happened to me as well, I knew right away it was my fault.  Can't blame the bike rack.

Dave, almost what happned to me... but not quite...

I dont expect Thule to pay for the damages, im just SUPER cheesed off this happend in the first place!

Let this serve a warning all fellow cyclists, to TRIPPLE check everything when mounting a rack like this... better yet, just stick to the ball mount!

It is a sinking feeling that crunch warp sound as you open the door, schoolboy error you only make once...

Had a similar problem - not with Thule but with another make rack that clamped with straps on the boot lid. Mine was a BMW 316 and when i opened the boot with the rack on it bent the boot to a point that it had to be replaced.

The rack found its way onto the rubbish dump the next day - I would never use this type of system pay the money for a towbar mounted system.

9 times out of 10 a boot lid/ strap type rack will only cause damage if not installed properly...

I don't think Thule or Saris or any other manufacturer would release something to the market if it damaged cars on a regular basis...

At the end of the day, these types of racks are designed and made to suit a certain price point for people who cannot or do not want to afford a tow ball system.
