So the first round is in Croatia in 2018. ...

Not sure what track they will use but from the Press release video it seems like the track is properly rocky, but not that steep.

Key features ...

- Only 230m maximum elevation change.

- A 300m tar section along a VERY narrow road at the end to finish in the town square on the coast.

- Lots of rock walls that will end people if you get it wrong. (So much for safety zones being a criteria for the UCI)

- no lift access either - they use bakkies and trailers as per one of the videos on youtube

Check out the promo video and POV.

what are your guys thoughts???

300m elevation

Bakkie uplifts

Dangerous tracks

Sounds more like one of our provincials

*Edit. I take that back. Track looks rrrrraaaaaaddddd and the venue looks amazing. World Cup tho? No.

Be honest...... Would a NON FAN of the sport sit through 2 ours of that? I know there's a bidding process and blah blah and I'm gonna get shot down again coz I think all World Cups should be in an Alpine location but the pinnacle of the sport needs to be in Aspirational, Visually stunning locations. With huge elevations and Mountain backdrops. It is Mountain Biking after all.

The WSL has contests at Pipe, Tahiti, J Bay, Tresles, Hossegor. Not Huntington Beach. That's for the QS.

Still swak that we didn't get a DH round. I would have though there was a decent mountain in Stellenbosch somewhere?

Still needs an enoooormous amount of financial backing, and a business pitch. We "lost out" to another non legacy venue but afaik it was always a fixed term contract with a view to extend.

200 m drop over a max length of say 2 km...

I think they area going to struggle to get a decent race time out of the track OR they are going to have to force it to be slower/longer by further reducing the tracks gradient.

It doesn't look like a WC level track in my opinion.

It does look like a cool spot for a beach holiday though!

My predictions:

Qualifiers - 2 broken hands and a shoulder

Main race - 1 broken collarbone, 1 broken shoulder

Doesnt look like a great track at all, more a charity thought

Id say its rough enough to be world cup class in the middle section.

But also there are not enough corners through that walled section. The one piece is literally straight before the last trees with the jump.

And the top start is Flatter than PMB. ... so there is one cool section for about 1km of  a 2km track thats rocky as all hell.

Will be interesting to see what the pro's and internet jockeys (like us) think ...

Also looking at the access road thats a slow, windy basically single lane road, that is going to take a WHILE.

Maybe the nurses are hot making the trip to hospital worthwhile.

This ^^^^

The promo vid made me want to go there on holiday but my bike would stay at home.

If The UCI are determined to have a pity ****World Cup every year they should at least have it in a place that makes economic sense. Like China where everything is made. Or the US where everything is consumed.

Yes I know there's a bidding process
