I counted on the picture... 34..

If you run ANYTHING smaller than a 36T chainring with an Eagle setup, please sell your bike and take up lawn bowls.

still less than the amazing thirty sixxxxxx  :whistling:

This is the CRM80 vs 81 (old vs new) comparison

I was going to say the original design of the 11spd Shimano rings would be questionable for compatibility, the tooth profiles were very square compared to normal narrow wide rings.

Thinking of dong the Eagle route, anyone know if you can get a 34T 12 speed chaining that will fit a XT crank, hoping to save a few bucks by avoiding a new crank

If you are budget sensitive you should not go 12 speed at all .An 11 speed works just as well and you can buy a shimano 11 speed conversion for much less than eagle .I am currently on Shimano 11 speed 34 x 11/46 .I don,t feel i need any more gears than this setup .Rapide/sunrace 11 speed cassettes are 25% the price of a 12 speed one

When chains cost R900 and the cassette costs more than an XT upgrade kit, you cant possibly put 'Sram Eagle' and 'Budget Sensitive' in the same sentence.

I went for the 36 on eagle as I was on 32 on XX1 before. When you compare gear ratios, it was very similar, so the legs didnt need to adjust to a new rhythm. My granny on the eagle is also lighter than it was on the XX1 - it compares to about a 30t front ring on the 42 of the XX1.

There is quite a few aftermarket options which will fit your XT crank, so yes it is possible. Have a look at absolute black.

Correct, the Shimano 11 speed chaining will not work, it has to be a Narrow Wide Chainring, there are many aftermarket brands avalible

They rode bigger rings during the prologue than the actual race apparently - guess they pre rode the prologue course to find a good setup for the long downhill that also let them climb ok.

Are we talking about the Epic or XCO ? Because I was referring tho the latter

For the epic- for xco they pick ratios dependant on the course. Jaro is a machine - there is a video of him testing the Brazil Olympic course showing power numbers... whole periods of 450w plus and even more from time to time - really impressive power
