I think both will feel the same when you ride the.Entry level road bikes are generally better quality than entry level mountainbikes. From the specs they are not great, but with proper maintenance either should take you far. I would ask the shop to change the compact crank (50/34) to a standard one (53/39) Look what you can find second hand for your budget also. When I bought my last road bike, I asked for "the cheapest bike with Shimano 105 10 spd". Reason for this was that I think for the way I ride the frames would not make such a huge difference in that level of bike, also it was the first year that 105 was available in 10 spd
