So, you're in Oz and thinking of buying a new trail/enduro/Dh rig with lekker wide bars? Think again.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is taking you on a trip to back in time to 1999 where your new bike will be fitted with a 700mm (max) wide bar.

Seems the rule isn't always enforced, but the ACCC decided to take a swipe at a few Giant bikes.

I also see they require chain guards..

"Relevant standards require bicycles to have a chain guard to prevent entrapment of clothing or body parts."

Not sure what the deal is. Sydney has gone rogue on fining cyclists for all kinds of day to day stuff it's nuts.

But then not surprising as there has been a law in place to regulate the length of your dog lead for years! #landofthefree-ish

Currently in NSW you can get pinged for the following:

$106 for not having a bell

$425 for track standing at the lights

$319 for no helmet

$425 for running a red light (you hearing that CT??)

$106 no ID when stopped

$425 for 'dangerous riding' whatever that is!

Heres my provisional bill:

$106 for not having a bell --- ONLY ON MY SINGLESPEED

$425 for track standing at the lights --- EVERY TRAFFIC LIGHT I DO THIS

$106 no ID when stopped --- JUST DONT STOP, ROLL SLOWLY

$425 for 'dangerous riding' whatever that is! ---  DONT CATCH ME DOING WHEELIES

Expensive morning out for me it seems...
