A nice Cape Town route for a visitor?

Hello guys, I'm an international in Cape Town for CTCT. Unfortunately it's been cancelled due to weather condition but I'd still like to get something out of my trip.

I'm planning on riding tomorrow. I checked the forecast for Cape Town and it doesn't look good. My question is, is there an area, at most 1 hour drive away from Cape Town, with better weather conditions and a good route? I'd really appreciate some guidance, thanks.

Franschoek:, up the pass and then to the dam on the other side and back is a great ride, then lunch at one of the wine estates there? Life doesn't get much better than that!

If this wind would just settle (even a little), the Atlantic seaboard out and back is always a great ride.

Paarl/Franschoek are also good alternatives offering something different.

weather forecast is actually near perfect conditions. I'd say ride the cycle tour route in reverse from town & continue straight over Blackhill into Simonstown.

What times would be best traffic wise.. Before 6am ? Middayish ?

Best to go early yes to avoid the morning traffic but if its not too hot of a day you can leave around 9am-9:30am. By that time the traffic should have thinned out.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I did Cape Rouleur so I've had plenty of Franschoek. I'll go with milky's advice and do the CTCT route if the weather is good, otherwise I'll head to Paarl.

More suggestions welcomed, thanks

Tuesday would be a better day. CTCT reverse is ideal. You would be riding in opposite direction to traffic if you leave by 7am. It gets really hot by midday so thats not advisable even if its high 20 deg C. I would just head down into Noordhoek and turn around back to town. That should easily net you about 80km.

The reverse route on your own past Noordhoek is not advisable especially around the back at Soetwater, Misty Cliffs.

Not sure if you got out today, the weather seemed manageable?

Do you use strava at all? If so I've created a reverse Argus route for you to give a try:

https://www.strava.com/routes/7888314

Ive placed the start at the parking lot of the Virgin Active in Green Point where the route finishes too. The app will provide you with prompts from the virgin active on a 85km reverse mini-Argus(CTCT) which will cover the best bits of the route, avoiding the far south peninsula completely.

Thanks. I followed milky4130's advice and did the reverse with a detour; 65 km. The weather wasn't as bad as forecasted.

I'll ride again tomorrow and will use your route, thanks for sharing.

Thanks again for the suggestions, Milky and all.
