Can anyone suggest, cheap accommodation for this race, we have a group of about 10 that will be going down.

Try The Knoll. We stayed there as a club before the unofficial LÉTape ride.

Question please:

How is Amashova compared to 947? Thinking of doing it om my ss... (have done 947 on ss)

Less climbing, longer. Valley of 1000 Hills is nasty. Race starts (after 'neutral' zone) on a stiff uphill.

I've never ridden on a SS so it's very difficult for me to comment.

If you're out to have fun, by all means attempt on the SS, but if you're going to a PB or the like, best stick with multiple gears.

DBN or PMB ?

You can stay in Durban and use the bus to get to the start. There's tons of places around Durban, many guest houses in La Lucia / Umhlanga area which gives you the option to ride back after the race. it will 5-10km max.

Does anyone have the route map in GPX format or perhaps a link to a Stava route?

You are worried about the first 14.6 km. This will be to the top of Fox Hill. Take it easy, save the legs for Inchanga, Botha's Hill and the few nasty bumps around Hillcrest. 45 cutting is nothing major for any self respecting weekend warrior, and is also over in a flash. At the top of Fox hill some nice groups of similar strength normally form up and tend to stay together for most of the way home. The wind is hardly ever a major factor.

Did you get a file or link? I can give you the link to my ride from last year, I think you can save to gpx from there

No but a first timer for sure.

I'm seriously considering driving down for my first one too. Only problem is i haven't been on my bike since Mid June due to injury and i see the event is only 75 days away.
