XTR but if you're on a budget XT and Deore do a great job but obviously not as light as the XTR's..

The Sram Guides are also something good to look at.....

Depends on what you want to do ?

If you want to be ( and have the ability to be ) on the podium for

XC : get XTR

Downhill : Get hope 4-pot.

If you want A seriously cable brake , that is super reliable and easy to replace /service get the SLX with Xt 203 rotors.

Been using this ^^ setup for A year on enduro and I have yet to feel like I need more stopping power.

Thanks guys! Just want a little more info on the setups!! I just want a little more stopping power!

Maybe just a rotor upgrade 203mm ice tech with metal pads?? using Shimano Deore M615 at the moment.

There was another thread about the ice tech and some of the comments were to rather upgrade to SLX first as not all ice tech might be compatible or ideal with M615. Have heard good things about the SLX M7000 brakes

Don't waste your money on xtr. XT785 has proven itself over and over to be best stopping and most reliable.

I moved from xt (785) to xtr (9000) and was disappointed by the reduction of stopping power... I have used all the brakes mentioned in this thread and still recommend xt. The ice rotors work well but don't last quite so long... I guess that's what you get for designing a hollow rotor.

SLX M-675

203mm front ( ice-tech) and 180mm rear (The difference from 180 and 160 was mind blowing )

I run metal pads ( I like less initial bite and they last much longer)

Honestly I doubt there are 100k factory xc bikes that can stop faster than me

First thing you need to is bleed your brakes to ensure they are working properly. You may just have air in the system and that leads to spongey brakes.

First upgrade is bigger rotors.

Then softer pads.

Resin pads don't last as long, but they are less damaging to rotors.

These two will cost relatively little for the performance advantage.

Then if you still feel you need more power than start looking at 4pot calipers.

I have a mate who run 615s on downhill best and they reckon they are great (203mm rotors.) He says the SLX brakes are more than capable and he runs those on his Enduro bike(180mm rotors.)

I have 615s on my hardtail, and I think they work just as great as the 675s on my trailbike. But I bleed my brakes regularly and go through resin pads quite fast.
