Well if people are trying to jump into an earlier start then you get Dq'd. So that's not a problem.

I am seriously thinking about printing my own number for this, I am working in Midrand for the week and its a mission to get out to Emperors.

I will just show them the sms with race number if I have any **** on the morning.

2016 I didnt collect my number.

Waiting for the start one of the people working there asked me where my number was.

I said I didnt collect it.

Oh okay was the reply.

If you plan to ride this event (and any other) without your race number, make sure you have some form of identification on you - in whichever format you feel necessary.

Your race number is linked to your personal details, which is should be kept with the safety officer (or in a file at the VOC). If you have any allergies, you don't want the medics administering the wrong medication - in the event of a crash and you are unable to speak for yourself.

Unless of course you aren't concerned about it, or think you won't crash.

Remember to white-out the actual number, you don't want to give an opportunist the chance to race on your actual number...?

There is no link between race number and race time. I can use the number of someone who cant do the race number anymore and without going the substitution route, race and get a race rime.

Been there, done that.

won't racetec pick it up? I have heard stories if them DQ'ing guys who start in wrong batches because the chip is linked to a specific start batch. Or do you race with their/no chip?

I call BS.

If I entered, have a race number (not the official printed number but the correct number)......

"uuuuhhh.....sorry sir.....please pay me because your number was printed in Arial 15 and not Sherif 25."

You assuming everyone honest and will NEVER think of riding a race they have not officially entered. Easy get your "permanent" number start of the year and ride every race you want on the calendar without actually entering. Ah but what about timing you ask. Well screw timing for someone that just wants to ride a training ride, is not worried about timing so does not wear a chip BUT has all the advantages of marshals, WP etc.

In my case I started in the race batch that I took over, but did not advise the orgs of the change and using my own chip i received my results, showing that there is no link between the person who entered the race and the race results.

Or run a road race that they haven't entered? How do the runners do it? There are ways around the problem. But up to now there has been no need to address it.

You have a permanent yearly lic  BUT you also get a temp number for the actual race which you must attach to show that you are valid to run THAT race.

This is very interesting, and concerning at the same time.

A happy middle ground for me would be to allow number collection for pre-entries on Race Day, that is all I ask.

Late entries is a different story, but then again, those entries would start with the latest batches and thus you can accomodate for that even on raceday by having a quantity and time cutoff for raceday entries.

But Raceday number collections would satisfy the needs of 99.9% of amateur cyclists.

With running you can buy your Temporary license and your race entry on Race Day, which is where the difference comes. Do this for cycling races and most would be happy with it.
