Yes. My cousin trained for around 4 hours per week (odd run or MTB ride) leading up to East London. He managed 6 hours and it was only his second 70.3. Some people can just do it with next to no training and lower relative "fitness levels". Just saying 8 weeks left, so no time like the present to get moving.

Exactly. If it was me I would not be able to do it. My first IM I trained for 18 months an shat bricks finishing it.

Some ppl are just better at this than others. I have to continuously work at it.

I think everybody is different - for me the joy is in the training. I love the tri-lifestyle.

"The joy in a challenge should always be in the journey, the journey that takes you to the goal. The goal in itself is an amazing thing to full-fill for sure but to enjoy it all I tend to look at the goal as the bonus to my journey." - Aron Anderson

Just saw this on twitter:

"Everyone is commending Alistair Brownlee’s incredible 1:09 run at Dubai 70.3, but Anne Haug’s performance of 1:14 puts her only 1 minute off the USATF Olympic marathon qualifying time, which relatively speaking, is a better performance! (AB was 5 mins off)"

Also saw this on FB this morning, watched the last 500m or so of the run to the line... looked fresh and as if he was on a Sunday morning training run!

Holllly hell. .... just did a lil swimming with the trisuit. Sold hook line aN sinker. It’s like cheating. Will never wear a wetsuit again unless compulsory. Reckon I am faster in this trisuit. Or mebbe it’s the weight loss when I put it on.

Is this a special trisuit?

no, nothing special at all. I would imagine they all "repel" water. my critical swim speed was about 2.5 seconds faster wearing it. That's a pretty impressive gain.  I reckon if I was wearing any suit the gain would be similar. of course the above is as scientific AF.  I hate wetsuits anyway so any event where they not compulsory from now on , no wetsuit for me.

I went for a longish run yesterday with the tristuit... had to wear a soft shell jacket as it was cold here (bout 2 degrees). Sweated quite a bit in the softshell and chafed my sensitive nipples a bit... only drawback so far but I think without the softshell jacket I would of had no problem.

Same problem here, copious amount of Body glide or similar on affected areas and I'm sorted

Wil6, these guys are having a serious sale at this stage - worth a look. I got one last week and is super impressed.

So glad I'm no longer the only one not able to swim 50m!

Haha thanks. So many options......any tips on which one to get?

Went for my first swimming lesson last week. I did not swim in school so was told to go see a professional. It's not as easy as I thought

I'm with you - never swam until mid-Dec. Major step a couple of weeks ago to be able to swim a lap instead of just lengths and resting inbetween. Then nearly drowned on Saturday when I was invited to join for a first open water swim. It's a total panic for a non-swimmer the moment you realise you're dead tired... and there's no place to stand! It's not like a ride where you can coast or a run where you can walk or stop...

Sorry, regarding what to get. This is all Orca, so if you dodon't like them for a brand, that's already an answer. I went with the middle range, 226. The Core is entry level and can't remember the top level garments. And I don't think there were any Core stuff left on sale (in the shop I went to, anyway) - but got the 226 one for way less than a regular priced Core.

Kinda what most of us felt like during our first open-water swim...
