That was me. All fine...broken leg but grateful that's all. @swiftbike isn't that the saddest pic?

Passive aggressive ranting by people who expect all roads to be empty at all times. It was Yoda that said "only the Sith talk in absolute terms" (ms Stockwell....)

I checked out one of the guys on facebook. Plenty of redneck tendencies, photos of engines and sooped up cars meant to transport grannies to church.

I saw, and filmed, some shocking driver behaviour yesterday between Camps Bay and Llandudno. Not sure what the problem was on Sunday, maybe the motorists were pissed at being in cars rather than outside like I was.

It was my father, the sharp right hand corner descending into Hout Bay, just before the construction site. No cars involved

Snip

Hope both accident victims in this thread heal up properly. Both suffered serious breakages.

A truck overturned at that spot on Saturday afternoon, caused a massive traffic jam into and out of Hout Bay. Ironically it was carrying sand, pity the spilled diesel was not covered in sand as there was plenty of it around, still is today.

Hardly surprised by the profile. Not exactly informed nor educated, just cheap ranting. Limited value add and best ignored

Thanks for the info about the accident. A quick investigation uncovered a pic on twitter.

Does anyone know who is responsible for cleaning up the road after an accident?

That is a pretty hectic set of injuries especially since your Dad is probably not a spring chicken like you!. That road always bothers me - well the strange stripes of what looks like oil and diesel that you generally see when riding down it do. . I think that the City of Cape Town/Provincial roads department/City Traffic dept is responsible and I think both your Dad and any other riders injured probably have a claim for damages for pain and suffering and medical expenses etc. They should have cleaned up the spill as a matter of urgency as soon as the road was cleared. The spill would have affected the road for cars as well.

Rhodes Drive is just not smart unless you are on a mtb next to the road.

Not Rhodes drive - HB side of Cont Nek

Rhodes drive should not be an issue - motorists should stick to the law - to wait for the right time to pass a cyclist will add how many seconds to their journey (in either direction) ???

I fully agree but in practice, on a very busy, winding road, it is very dangerous

We also dont do ourselves any favours by riding two abreast etc
