SAPS won't do anything unless there's one or more dead bodies.

SAPS's incompetence, combined with their unwillingness to do anything resembling their duty/job, means that matters like this rarely go anywhere.

Of course, in the small chance that this does end up in court, it'll probably be ####ed up by the prosecutor (most of whom are NOT admitted attorneys) and presiding officer.

[the above is my experience of saps and the courts but hope springs]

^100% - It needs to be accepted as a way of life in SA.

Here is a perfect example of witnesses, wrong way etc....I hope they send this women to jail for life.

Set the example.

Bit p'd off about the facts vs conviction.

Cant "Pedal Power" or some kind of "Cycling safety organisation"  who all promote this 1.5m  passing campaigns etc. get involve in such court case and use it to make an example of this person?

Agreed. Seems like an ideal test case for PPA.

The headline says "Hit and run" and right underneath, "Police deciding if it will go to court".  That right there is one of the monumental f!§§ups on South African roads.  Hit and runs should be one of your worst offences on the road and should be dealt with harshly.

Burn her house down, block the roads, thrown some stones.... looks like that is the only way to get attention in matters these days...

With all due respect, without prejudice and off the record.......but why the f... does Constable Khakhau get to make the decision about this matter going to court?

...but really nice to see the witnesses come forward.

... wondering when ol' grumpy will say "but we need to hear the full story"

in all seriousness, hope the south african police, courts, the whole damn justice system gets their arse in gear.  problem is that our politicians don't really give two cents about cyclists and getting people on bicycles cause then the whole fuel levy will line their pockets less.  slightly  :offtopic: sorry.

and it's not just the law that needs to get sorted, it's people's attitude towards it.  you don't see policemen/traffic officers be examples most of the time.  our president is a (alleged :whistling: ) criminal, so everyone thinks they can do what they want.  people don't respect their fellow person and are always caught up in their own world.
