Hi all

I ordered shoes from Evans, which I understand delivers with DHL. On Trakpak it shows this message now from 3 May:

ARRIVED IN COUNTRY / NON EU PRESENTED TO CUSTOMS

It is my first order from an overseas seller, so don't know whether it is normal to be stuck here for a while? What's a reasonable time to wait?

Thanks

A recent order on 16 March from planet-x UK was stuck for an entire month in JHB customs. Got it yesterday (7 weeks later). But that was normal postage (tracked). CRC orders get here quite quickly usually - a week or so in JHB has been my experience.

If it's really DHL all the way (and you paid for a courier), they'll speed it up. If they hand it to EMS (post office courier), they'll slow it down.

Full DHL: DHL will contact you re duties payable. Call them to hurry things along... Once you pay them, the item will be cleared and released for delivery. Should not take longer than a day or two - depending on how long you take to pay duties over. NB: use DHL's online payment portal.

It's gone via the Post Office and that means you'll have to wait FOREVER to get it out.

I've been waiting for two months so far for something from Evans.  Same story as yours.

What pi**es me off is that they state on their website they use DHL. That's the reason why I ordered from them. If I knew there is a possibility that our Post Office may become involved I would never have placed the order. I really hope I don't have to wait 2 months :-(

I know what you mean. I think its DHL Express (or something like that) which is not full DHL.

I used DHL recently for a chain reaction order. Need to keep phoning them until the tracking indicates it is released, I would recommend 2 or 3 times a day if it is urgent. I gave them my ID number 3 times. DHL didn't contact me about duties or reasons for the delays. I had to phone them.

If you've paid with PayPal, start badgering Evans with not delivering on what you paid for, and turn to PayPal for a refund. I don't know if it's worth the pain, but maybe Evans will realize they can't say "DHL" and then use a combination/different couriers.

I had this a few years ago with clutch parts for a dirtbike from USA, and it helped me pressure them into sending another parcel via real DHL, and not USPS/DHL hybrid.

I think UPS delivers to the door. I ordered goodies from Italy and they were stuck for 2 1/2 weeks.Kept phoning, no joy. Asked for number for manager or director and got a number for a lady in the Brokerage Dept. Phoned her Friday 9.00 am and goods were delivered at 1.00pm. you need to speak to someone with the will and power to unstick.

I will PM you her name, number and email address. OH....and BEG!

Good luck with DHL, Make sure you call them regularly, otherwise they will threaten to charge storage fees and this will be the only time they call you.

Your goods will be reviewed by customs first.

I use the post office most of the time and apart from a 2 to 3 week wait, I dont have issues with them. This is tracked goods only. If you dont have a tracking number then you will have to wait extra long.

CRC refunded my postage when the delivery date expired by one day. Needles to say SAPO was involved. I did get my order 7 days overdue.

Another order from China sat at JIMC and SAPO for 80 days.

The same time it took Phileas Fogg and Passerpartout to circumnavigate the globe on a steamship and horse-drawn carriage.

I am avoiding SAPO for all future courier services. My company has also not renewed a R250K annual courier contract with SAPO.

Give the Post Office a shout - in CT it's Capemail, not sure what the Jozi one is called. If it's with them you can often speed up the process by collecting yourself.
