The X01 version that has silver/white writing on will work just as well and its only the color of the writing that is different.... There is no difference. Not even in price

I know of at least 2 shops that would be able to help you in about 5 mins.

Why is the gold writing so important.

Or is this about showing people the Gold ring

He wants the gold. the gold writing is very important....

My bad. What's more important, not wearing out a chain due to old ring or gold?

What I actually don't understand is how a chainring wears out on 1 chain wear. Never heard of that sort of wear on a ring.

My thoughts exactly.

Im a bit closer to this situation than you know.

This is not the first chain....

If i have my facts correct, then it was explained that the other rings will work just fine...

I once fitted a 5800 series 105 53 blade on a Dura Ace 9000 crank. It also fitted...

Comparing a 105 part on a Dura ace crank is substantially different from a XO eagle chainring on a XX eagle crank- the chainrings of these two are literally 100% the same thing.

It is a consumable item....pic a cost effective and reliable option and move on....

Out of interest, how old is your youngster and what sort of mileage and general conditions has he been riding in?

If you really want a drive train to run smoothly for a very long time you could consider an upgrade to 1x1 ?

But I can understand that you have bought a high end item and now want to replace with the same, and expect the distributors to carry the stock.....well at least offer free trade so we can buy what ever SRAM products from wherever in the world they do carry the specific stock you want.

Short term solution a economical black chain ring and a permanent marker to black out any graphics that may offend you?

Not really. You missing the point. Mixing lower range stuff with higher end stuff ( XO vs XX1) . Even if it is the "same thing" as mentioned by you.

The OP did not started the topic to ask to what ring should he DOWN GRADE to work on his setup.

He is frustrated as he cannot keep the groupset complete XX1, and with reason.

Shame any other color but GOLD is going to damage his REP and being on par with the plebs that have to run black is below him,why burn the brand and not the Distributor. Have you tried a different LBS maybe?

agreed, but the problem is that the distributor is affecting the brand by carrying such low levels of stock.  There have been several previous threads about how Cape Cycle Systems (SRAM exclusive distributor in SA) have really dropped the ball across the board.  They completely prevent any other stock coming into SA by blocking all the online retailers, but then keep zero inventory to supply our local market.

Snap poll:

The advantage of a local agent is that warranty issues can be taken care of locally (at least theoretically - it always requires stock to be in country for replacements in any event)

Would hubbers be happy to deal with warranty issues by sending faulty parts back to overseas suppliers/online retailers if we could buy directly from any source - CRC, Bike24, overseas bike shops etc?

I have checked with Cape Cycle Systems and this was their reply:

"The SRAM Eagle chainring is the same chain ring for all Eagle groups. The variables are 3mm offset and 6mm offset and 104bcd. Further variable is the number of teeth.

The last variable is that you can  order these with a gold decal to match the Eagle XX1 gold group.

We carry all variables save for opting not to have the gold lettering."

So apart from cosmetics there is no difference and other than not getting 100% what you want a bit of a non-issue then. Maybe check with your LBS again.
