lol...as we suspected....

I have had the odd year where I have thousands in the savings .... but due to some stupid sub-sub-rule I have to pay in R9 on R1000 medicine from the pharmacy .... or like the R6-00 that they dont cover for a full eye examination .... These are accurate, though idiotic, figures of the last two months.

But as for the few hundred rand the specialist charge extra .... nope, NOT from the savings account. In fact, many specialists "prefer" payment upfront and you must then claim back from the medical aid.  Discovery pays back in about 10 days - at their tarrif though

My wife started a new job at the police. We will be on polmed from next month. We took the most expensive option there is and it is still R1000 rand cheaper than our old medical aid. Do any of you have experience with Polmed? How do they compare to other aids?

Went to the Chiro 3 times beginning of the month. They submitted for me. Got a email from medical aid saying they paid all but 20c of the one code. Got the same mail after each consult. Spoke to the chiro after the 3rd session and he said its always like that with most of the medical aids and they just write it off. Something about the fee is a round number but the medical aids have an exact number they pay which happens to be 20c less. So in theory I owe them 60c but it just gets written off. I would love to know the reasoning behind this.

to me and you 20c is nothing, or the R6 for the optitian, or the R9 on the meds .....

SURE it must add up to a tidy sum for the medical aids over millions of members ....  :cursing:   :cursing:

just discovered today that I was way off...My folks pay R7600 for 2 of them!!!

stay away from resolution health - sound like a bunch of crookes. Needless to say they are switching to discovery and thanks to Myles recommendation they are getting on Stratum GAP.

The move means they will not be covered for 3 months (chronic will still be covered). Little bit nervous in case something happens with my dad...but there is not much they can do

We are with Resolution health..okay only the hospital plan. .but we've never had issues with payments. .okay also we've never had really big procedures done. . I had my ACL repair and had to pay 3k co-payment but the hospital paid back all of that co-payment.

Kids have had their stints in hospital with illness and injury never had an issue.

I have often thought about changing medical aid..but because we've never had issues decided against it.

Perhaps time to revisit some of the fine print.

My million dollar question is can you use Momentum's HealthReturns if you are on a ProfMed scheme.

Can you clarify your question? By law a person is not allowed being a member of 2 medical schemes at the same time.

So normally if you switch between medical schemes , you previous medical scheme would wait roughly 4 months since termination and then transfer the balance of your medical aid savings to the new medical scheme’s savings account. In some cases the money gets paid in your bank account.

Profmed is administered by Momentum, and you can get Multiply as an add-on benefit as a result of that.

But I don't think Profmed qualifies for the Health Booster portion of the returns.

After some searching my conclusion is the same.

You can't.. Already researched it. The only benefit you get from multiply is the immediate member benefits of cheaper flights etc... Speaking of..I have a number of flights to book soon.... Off to investigate

Mango, for myself on private club, 50% off. Even though I get free flights as a perk, they are standby tickets and come March when I trek down to CPT for the argus I don't even bother using my free tickets and I just buy mango tickets. If I book really early(like November/December) its less than 1k return! This year I left it till really late and paid R1800 return.

  • 1 month later...

sort of true ...

The new insurer MAY impose a waiting period. Typically this applies to pre-existing conditions only. Typically you are covered for accidents etc from the start

NO, you may NOT "double up".

3 month waiting period is NOT only for pre existing conditions. The 3 month waiting period is a general waiting period - all requirements unless you are one of those that have access to PMB cover which will be determined by your previous 90 days of either belonging to a scheme or not.

Profmed is a "closed scheme", allowing only graduate professionals onto the scheme. Statistically this group claims less, thus better value for money options available ....

DO note that 2015/16 saw a significant migration of people to Profmed, thus they had to cut back on some cover limits for 2017 ....

Discovery Health and Vitality are 2 different companies. You can chose to have an incentive product or not. So Discovery Health core business is that of any other scheme
