“What impressed me most, even more than his results, is his desire to reach the top. He invested a lot in his sport and paid all his travel expenses himself. I like his professional attitude. WorldTour level will be a big step, but I am confident and we will look out for and care for him. Willie can handle climbs, he is fast and he has a good time trial in his legs. I look forward to working with him,” - concluded general manager José Azevedo.

Big words from a big name. I think LM will need to change his race tactics or we won't even be talking about him anymore.

Can we take this opportunity to have a little whinge about DDD. You know 'Africa's team', letting an African slip through the cracks whilst they brought in:
- 2 Saffa's (One promoted from conti team and one returning home)
- 1 Dutch
- 1 Flem

[Edit]: Not pissing on the Katusha parada. Thats a fantastic thing for Willie.

Honestly best thing for him was to NOT sign with DDD..(IMO)

Kind of like the French youngsters and French teams.. I give you Alaphillipe as example.

Sure. I'm not thinking about it from Smit's point of view. I'm just thinking about this 'Africa's team' image.
