DT Swiss Hub/Freebody

These wheels are a few years old 2012/2013 off an anthem.

I've never had any issues with them but recently (since a service) my free body keeps on coming loose. I get an extremely bad grinding sound from the back when i am in certain gears and then when i remove rear wheel the whole free body with cassette pops off.

Is this something to be concerned about or must i just pop it back and keep riding?

and does anyone maybe have a spare one lying around as mine has had a few bites taken out of it and i think the grinding might be because there is play at some of the gears. (LBS quoted 1.5k for freehub.

If tight the grinding would most likely not come from the cassette freebody interface... the splines are really filthy and need some serious TLC!

Take of the splines and the springs and soak them in some paraffin for 2 mins... then wipe them clean and dry...

Wipe the inside of the hub and freebody with the same cloth with some paraffin...

Don't soak the freebody in paraffin!!!

Put some light grease or wet lube on the splines before reinstalling.. as well as some on the ratchet interface surface...

Wipe all seals with the paraffin cloth..

Put back together and fasten to recommended torque... not to much as you could bust the thread..

Listen to the bliss of DT swiss.....

Going to have to google most of what you said...but will give it a go! Thanks.

Those hubs are a slip fit assembly and are held together by the skewer. Service is pretty simple and instructions are on DT's site - the Giant ones are 350s.

Basically take it apart, clean it, lube it and put it back together.

I love the simplicity of DT hubs.

Before I got my Chris Kings I only had DT hubs, MTB and road. If you really want to experience bliss buy the ratchet upgrade with more engagement teeth..... mmmmmmm

I`ve tried to get the ratchet upgrade for a 240s hub but DT SWISS service sucks in my opinion, it`s as thought they have never heard this request before. Slapgat/useless in my opinion.

I have a 10spd freehub body from a DT Swiss 240 hub. not sure if it interchanges with yours.

If it does, make me an offer.

Dave

Shot Dave, popped you a message.

While you are at it replace the damaged spokes! The nicks are stress risers and will break at some stage.

Servicing those hubs used to be our bread and butter.  Haven't seen one in a while.  The drive side wheel bearing is a bitch to get out.  Tool in the vice, call the gardener to help, sort out the right/wrong direction dyslexia and screech - out comes the drive ring.  Sealed bearing free hubs have taken over and now a one man job.

Hey Frank, and other Hubbers - A bit late to the party here, but just in case anyone has reopened this thread and was wondering how to get access to DT parts. Get Stoked has taken over distribution of DT SWISS parts (Sans suspension which is Robbies Bicycle Concept) as of February 2018 and stock levels and price is much better represented now in our market!

Welcome to chat to your LBS on how to go about getting any of the parts mentioned in this thread or just mail me directly at marc@getstoked.co.za and I will assist you as best I can.

Cheers all!
