WTF CSA?

apparantly a damming report from the csa finance committee who recommends that MB be removed - big meeting coming up to decide but MB has a lot of support from the commission disciplines. they should all go. exco , manangment committee and the full time staff. start from scratch.

Easy to say... but there are some good and competent people there and most of these jobs are not jobs you or I would necessarily do. I agree though that drastic changes are required, but again - easier said than done.

Where CSA is now has been a long process, and lots of bad decisions have gotten them here... they've been looted by staff, run numerous failed events, been sued, pissed off many of their bigger cash cows, and probably most importantly they still haven't come up with anything resembling a solid regular income stream. Why couldn't they have organised a big road race, a series, a national mtb series, the Cape Epic etc???

The sport has absolutely boomed the last 15 years, CSA somehow has transpired to completely miss the boat

the solid income stream is licensing and rider levies but they leave the collection of this up to volunteers in the provinces and districts. same with licensing/sanctioning - they urge organisers to sanction the event which means all riders must be licensed - who polices this? not csa, not the organiser, they want province/district volunteers to do this. not even the biggest mtb race in the world checked licenses until very recently and then only at the insistance of the 'little' district. so imagine CSA organising a race - remember they are affiliated to UCI - 1st up R150K for the rights to host a uci accredited race, thats just the start (pardon the pun) . the finish area will set them back another R100K in fencing and finish line gantry. there lots of good , well meaning and passionate people in CSA but i'm sorry the leadership has made too many COSTLY mistakes to keep them there.

The BC Bike Race has nothing to do with CSA

I don't think its CSA's business to be organising any events.

It might not be necessary if all the other boxes are being ticked proficiently, but just think about the income streams for other sports. Rugby, Cricket, Soccer etc... national body has a strong hold on the provincial comps etc There isn't much difference in my eyes between paying a race entry or paying for a ticket in a stadium?

Just me 2 cents though, they need all the help they can get money wise... but like I said, they've probably already missed the boat.

Cross Subsidization?

Is that even a real thing?

Take money for one thing, spend it on salaries... etc

Get told, you make use this money for THIS event, meh, go and spend it on something else.

Like getting money for a dairy farm and spending it on a wedding. Very similar  :whistling:

Interesting that despite the tough times according to CSA, PPA are still cash flush.

Think thats a problem in its own right.

One body spends too much, the other a little too little....

The baby bears porridge was just right.

One is financially prudent and run correctly, organises events and actually does stuff to further cyclists rights in SA.

The other holds meetings about meetings.

Noted Hub posts articles and press releases sent to them:

We have to put up with "CSA ruling on disc brakes" nonsense then they should also post the article about CSA unlawful acts.

Edit - Know how it works now.
