Will probably be a lot of haters, but the new Anthem looks really good  price doesn't look too bad either, R40k for the Anthem 2 29

In 2015 a anthem x1 was 20k new... doubled in 2 years

As low as that? I remember the 2014-trance 2 being around R22000 New.

That said, I did buy a 2013 trance x1 for R16500 (in 2014).

Even the trance... the 1.5 is now 47.... insane escalation

Me being more biased to longer travel I think making the Anthem 100mm/90mm F/R is a crappy move. The anthem was quite capable with the 100mm it had especially when you stuck a 120mm fork on the front.

I think Giant has really trimmed off the "do-anythingness" of the Anthem. So will there be an SX version with 120mm/110mm on the way perhaps????

Racing an older 2013 Trance X 29 with its 120mm I use most of the travel most of the time on our trails so I cannot see why trimming down to 90mm makes sense especially since the new frame is slacker and longer with a tucked ass - all of which I thought is great but not with 100/90mm - just doesn't make sense to me (suppose one should not be hitting the tech sections as hard on a race bike???)

There is more than just travel numbers to the new Anthem. The new geometry and suspension tweaks have really changed the bike, and the one I rode was super capable, much more so than the previous 100 mm version. It will still probably feel really good with 120 mm out front.

I need to go see the boys at the LBS... take a new Anthem on a demo thrash - is the only way to tell... still sceptic. I really like the geometry for sure - as this was the very reason I went with and am quite happy on the Trance 29er - It is still quite a ballsy move from Giant.

I'm hoping the Anthem signals a rethink on their 27.5 nonsense and they make a new Trance 29er someday soon. That'd be a bike!

It does look great and that red...  :w00t:

But at that price I would have at least expected more up-to-date brakes  especially being a new model and all.

I know all manufacturers do that to save costs but then why not use the new Deore M6000 brakes (same look as M7000 and M8000) and take advantage of the new I-specII mounting to really give the cockpit the WOW factor it deserves!

Remember these are mass produced and assembled on an assembly line where things like fiddly I spec mounting is a pain to do. Also the spec of the brakes typically is negotiated and possibly later models will have the newer brakes. This way the groupset manufacturer gets rid of surplus of older model equipment probably still stockpiled in their warehouse and the bike manufacturer get to make a great price on their brand new bike.

The items like I spec mounting and latest equipment you usually find on the PRO range of bikes as they are usually run through a separate assembly line. But that means you not gonna pay the nice low price the more basic bikes are.

You could always just customize your bike as you see fit with I spec etc. I find that as part of the fun - direct off the shelf has never been great as so much can be improved upon. How many times do you see guys riding with the OEM stem in the length it came from the factory (whether its too short or too long  ) and bar with all the spacers still on.

I don't see I-spec as fiddly... it's actually much easier to install especially if the grips are already on the handlebars  :D

Yes but you have all the time in the world to DIY in your garage.

Believe me - if you look at that video about the visit to Giant's factory there is no time to install a nut to a brake lever to then screw a shifter to it ... 1 dude slaps brakes on the bar, 1 dude slaps shifters on and the last guy slaps some grips on and often times lots of different models come down the same line - new and already existing models 1 second lost is additional cost - you are lucky if they tighten the clamps on the handlebar as your shop would set the brake levers for you anyway.

That's why the local bike shops has to complete some of the assembly and do a setup of the bike - you could argue perhaps that your local bike shop should give you the option on I spec - which you would need to pay for as the ispec parts are probably not available with the bike.

Over and above this - R60k for an ally Anthem with XT is ridiculous. All bikes are way overpriced these days... think we should organise a protest on the prices of new bikes... if the taxi industry can protest about Quantum prices so can we!!!
