LOL - The name Ian rings a bell.  At least Shimano Europe is now onto this also.  They just tweeted me...

If he sounded a bit british that's Ian. He's a straight shooter so doubt he's talking BS. It might be a decision from up top.

Shimano used to have different warranty "rules" for Dura-Ace and XTR as apposed to the rest.

This used to mean discretion was used and generally the customer was kept happy as long as the claim was legit.

Thanks, did not talk to him myself. Was handled by the shop. The name Ian however rings a bell as the person they sent the battery to.

Trust me, I would not go to this amount of trouble if I did not believe I have a legit claim. Moisture damage, really?

The product should last longer than 8 months and sitting safely inside a pretty much safe zone inside the seatpost...

Just all sound unbelievable and weird to me.

Just reading through the comments, this is actually p1s5 poor service on a top end product...

XTR and Dura Ace should get almost hassle free product support and warranty claims without giving consumers the unnecessary stress of being at fault, relative to the problem at hand of course... these batteries are expected to be moisture/waterproof because of the expected harsh conditions they are to withstand! I'm glad Shimano Europe is at least getting involved...

Must agree with this view. If I spent so much moola on a top end product I would also expect the supplier to bend over backwards. Hell man, I expect that even when I buy bottom of the range. Commuter - Press forward. No turning back. Push harder. We (oops - I mean you) shall overcome. Best of.

Issue closed.  Coolheat made personal contact via Ian and offered to replace the battery.  A battery is on its way to the shop at no charge.  Ian also spend some time with me on the phone.  I am happy that it is resolved.

Thanks for Shimano Europe for also getting involved.  I have also closed the matter with them.

stoked you got sorted out.

just sad one has to resort to posting on a public forum in order to get the local suppliers to stand by their warranty

My Di2 battery on my XTR gave problems again 8 months from buying a new battery at R2400.

What kind of battery costs R2400?

I replaced my laptop battery for about R300, my cell phone battery for under R200 and I can get a 100AH 12V deep cycle battery for my USP for under R1500...

Ian is a champ and really helpful , Cool Heat is fortunate to have the staff they do . If only the product was as good as the staff they employ.

Actually R2400 seems to be pretty cheap compared to R6000 the other chap was quoted for a cable.

Another reason not to go electronic

You mean the staff that refused a warranty replacement on grounds of water damage, and then back pedaled after the matter was escalated and placed on the interwebs?

I smell a rat.

So why the replacement now?

Please elaborate as to what transpired for them to change their minds.

Why lock the thread? Surely other Hubbers may end with a similar problem and could benefit from this? Now that your problem is fixed, we should all move on?

Too many unanswered questions here - I have been contemplating going Di2 but something is not right here...
