Women could cycle the Tour de France route, so why give them La Course?

Force all tour teams to be mixed with at least 2 team members being of the opposite sex. Problem solved, and tour just got better. and still have your male and female categories

A Dutch female Sunweb rider got asked after LaCourse by a cycling fan: "Are you also a Sunweb fan and bought their outfit" to which she responded: "yes, I have a full wardrobe of them"...

How can a team consist of two riders and compete against 7 or so rider teams?!

Yes women must come up with their own model but piggy bagging of the men to get the awareness up isn't all bad... As mentioned with the right sponsors a lot can be achieved.

SA women racing used to be in good shape with some women teams decided to race against the men (VA) to up the level and prepare for Europe... How will SA women cycling look like when Ash retires... in very bad shape...

Fact that e.g. a Jo VDW can podium in local races with less than 10 hrs of training speaks for itself ;)

I hear you... what are YOU doing about it... besides some (re)tweeting and encouragement for Ash and other ladies not much :(

There used to be a 12-day Tour de France for women which was canned cos they claimed lack of public interest even tough ASO made little effort to promote it... Progress... not at all!

Giro Donne is a 10 day tour with no rest days and no live coverage / poor advertisement and peanuts for prize money and UCI Points... Progress... not at all...

ASO must do a lot more to promote women cycling and not just let them be a side show of the men.

As the TdF this year has shown shorter stages are WAY more exciting... so not point to letting men / women race silly distances and needing 1-2 months to recover from such a Tour.

Letting men race with women... what would the point be... and why don't they apply this to all sports then?!

Listen to this Podcast with Ashleigh (2nd part of interview) and learn a thing or two about women cycling...

Was also going to place this podcast.

Woman in all sport are always diminished by mens side....it always come down to the comparison in sponsorship and viewers. People will not start to view ladies sport if no effort is made to promote it effectively

SA unfortunately have not got the road conditions to encourage people to participate in the sport. This can change in many ways by starting to get people invested in track cycling again. Safe cycling, affordable to get competitive and you learn to ride your bike. We have the facilities they are just not used

is also a great listen. They have a specific 'feminine' podcast as well as a great 'la course' and Podium girls special in 'kilometre 0'

AMP, LizzieAD and co come across as more eloquent, reasoned and effective than 80% of the interviews about the sport (and it's future) that you get from the guys teams and DS'.

Although a Tour de France comparison is still far away due to logistical, sponsorship and profitability issues, I would love to watch a competitive mixed race.

Maybe the organizers of Hammer Series can include something like this:

Prize money is split 50/50 for the first male and female riders in the respective classifications. This will result in the men being domestiques for their female team mates to ensure they are protected or perfectly led out in sprints or KOMs.

Similar to the DC, except it is not a team time trial.

I cycled track once. Loved it!!

You the bike and the wall.

But we were 5 on the track, Me, a friend and the "instructor" and another instructor and a lady.

What is the chances of crashing? I really do not want to crash again.

When the rules are followed the chances are really minimal, crashes do occur same as in the road tour.

I will do a bit of a write up of the state of UK Track Cycling and why I believe they get it right. Really well supported and competitors of all ages

I am no expert on Woman's cycling issues, however, since Leontien Van Moorsel burst onto the scene in the 1990's I have always been a big fan of woman's cycling, generally they dont have the internal political issues, they are super competitive and somehow there is always an animator in every race, unlike the men who can go untold stages where nothing happens and we all fall asleep, the woman race with vigor, so Yah, I would like to see more big international woman's events on a level footing for sure.

Another cool view from a female PRO, Leah Kirchmann

The views that weighs the most in terms of desire, visioning and planning

My ideal vision for a women’s Tour de France would be a four to five day event, a few stages in the mountains, a time trial stage and a finish with a circuit race on the Champs-Elysees. I hope the ASO can see the value women’s cycling has to offer, and will continue to develop and improve La Course. The Tour de France is magical, and my hope is that one day little girls can dream of wearing a maillot jaune on the streets of Paris.

There is a long history of female athletes being underpaid, even when their viewership numbers are higher than the men's. Your statement is generalizing and unnecessary.

I recently took up cycling, and when I started looking at female cycling, I was shocked to see how badly represented women are. It's a pretty sad state of affairs. I wouldn't turn to current events, but look at corporates and potential sponsors to help fill the gap. A company such as Liv is perfectly placed and would get a lot of attention.

This is actually factually wrong, where female athletes bring in more money than males they are better compensated (tennis would be a good example of this, where most tournaments pay equal prize money but guys like Federer could only dream of the endorsements Sharapova gets)

Yes sports has entertainment value, but when all is said and done we are in the professional era and that means it's business and nothing else. Bring in the revenue and you'll earn the big bucks.

And no that is not sexist it's just a fact!

SA road conditions did not stop the development of King Louis and SA DD riders in last TdF. Some for Australians who also bemoan their safety on the roads (have to admit: Aussies are prone to moaning though)

Will never work, guys like Cavendish, Kittel etc will be at a distinct disadvantage. When sprinting for the line the gentlemanly thing to do is Ladies first.
