I want to get my second set of rims some brake disks. Can I buy 2nd hand or should one rather go new?

If I go 2nd hand, how do I check that they run true (no wobbles).

Thanks in advance.

easy way to check if they run true it put them on a wheel in a bike, put a cable tie around fork or frame so the excess part that you usually cut off sits just on the disc, spin wheel and see if it moves  toward or away from cable tie end as it spins...

A dial test indicator would be best but a cable tie will give you a good rough idea.

Same goes for rims

Thank you kindly. Will check the cable tie method tonight.

And there I was thinking this is a place to get info....Thanks to the guys that did not make fun of me and answered my question.

I would say even more important than a wobble is if they have uneven wear, and show deep scratches.  Thickness is also important.

Straightening them is a piece o'pie.

Scratches and the wobble I understand but why thickness?

Ask your lady.

She'll understand the importance of light scratches, wobbling and thickness.

It's all tongue in cheek, I doubt they meant anything by it.

I must admit I am a little sensitive but feel they did not help to at least give some advise on my question. (or they did not know the answer to the question :w00t: )

Why they chose to criticise I would not know. Easy to just scroll down and let it be.

If by naming these highly educated persons in my post I somehow offended someone, my humble apology.

No, I was a little irritated, not offended by them. Takes a little more to report bad sportsmanship - hope I do not race against these chaps.

They will just go by without a second glans if you had problems (my opinion)
