we had a certain client who sold a certain (Great quality product) at a great price, but the good never sold that well ..... he changed the branding, increased price by a great margin and is now doing very well.

product is still a great product though.

Same story, different person. Mate was selling water filters imported from China. Retail was about half of the H2O units. Sales were not doing well. They did a bit of market research and found out that Mr Consumer thought it was an inferior product because it was cheap.

They withdrew the product from the shelves for a few months, re-branded it and relaunched at a much higher price point. Sales figures went well north of their expectations. It was always a good product but it was perceived to be rubbish because it was cheap. I use them at home.

My perspective on expensive things was put into place when a fellow rider passed me at Sani2c on a cheap mountainbike wearing rugby shorts....

Ego was bruised. Moral of the story, live within your means and get out on the trails and ENJOY the bike that you can afford. Who wants to be a blinged out race snake anyway...

It is a relief to see it happens to others. I have half killed myself trying not to be overtaken on Chapmans Peak Drive by laborers dressed in overalls on Nishiki Hyperama specials with one bent pedal and a crusty chain (with me on the fancy road bike in italian lycra with the fancy energy drinks etc)

In our industry, if you aren't above a certain price point during an RFI, you don't get considered for the RFP.

Screw the expensive stuff!! Buy a single speed!

When the time comes to build a single speed: "Oooooh, look at that shiny carbon fork, and I NEED a steel frame, and of course you can't go without a Hope SS or Chris King hub". Fark me, now it's a R30k single speed... (PS. This is from experience, and I love the damn bike!!!).

Sadly the urge to own the best you can barely afford will always be there, and with the opportunities to finance that urge (via credit card, bike finance, home loan, selling of 2 toes at a time) make it so much easier to go 15% beyond. And whilst we do this, the market WILL keep on evolving, and pricing will increase!!

Luckily for us (the broke bastards drooling over the pretty things) as tech evolves last year's model gets cheaper...

Screw ALL of you show off cyclists, even the single speed brigade, us real hipsters would never splurge on a bicycle, or even a unicycle, why spend all that money on a bike when you could just walk, barefoot, wearing only thrift shop clothes, which was not purchased but rather acquired through trade bartering, using only energy which was consumed by eating plants growing on the side of the roads.

Edit: I might be offline for a while, as I need to sell my expensive laptop that I use during the day, I will only use a old recycled iPhone 4, or make use of a green footprint Internet Cafe going forward.

Obviously written by someone who is not putting children through school and varsity yet...........

Most parents sacrifice to afford a decent education for their kids.  They are not really Hipsters, just dedicated parents.....(then when they leave the house, there is retirement to start planning for)

Original post: Is Sram going mad?

I am always amused when I see that somebody gave his details/paid a scammer when the scammer sms's him and tells him he has won the lottery. Or some other distant uncle died in Nigeria and he is the sole surviving member of that family.

Who was the fool? The greedy one.

Remember the movie Seven. On the seven deadly sins?

envy, gluttony, greed or avarice, lust, pride, sloth, and wrath.

I just gave up having gears... after struggling with leg speed and mechanicals in a failed experiment for the last 2 years I have reverted fully to having 1 on each bike.

I find that I am actually enjoying riding more than I have since adding the extra speeds. I might not be as fast and I might get a bit more tired but the little boy BMX grin is worth 3 times that and I get to put some extra money into the bond every month.

My competitive spirit died when Instagram showed me that chasing marginal gainz as a bog average athlete is actually pretty sad

Terrible assumption to make. I have a 7 year old daughter who is in school, which I pay for, I also put 4 other kids (not mine) through school, at my own personal expense.

I wrote that in jest and used hyperbole to make a joke. If you can't see that, well then thats on you. Don't take yourself so seriously.

Went down that road, thought I could save money and use my wife's old IPhone 4. What a piece of crap.
