You look like a race snake. Anyone else?

Racing snakes do it in under 10 minutes, that hike-a-bike should be respected but get far more hype than it deserves

Everybody still ready to go? Bodies holding up? Spares bought?

Stress is picking up a bit.

Got a proper checklist from someone that has done it before. One or two things i still want to get ;-)

Doing the Middle One Tonner as final preparation

Ready as can be

Really don’t know what to expect. Only my second stage race ever! Just hoping I do t *** off for 3 days

First for me and my partner. The *** off is the problem...not much that can be done for fitness anymore. Think I worked quite hard

Only thing you should expect is that this is really the best 3 day stage race in SA. Im not just saying that cause I'm from CT but its the truth. Sani used to be the leader in 3 day events and then W2W pulled their socks up and its passed for 1st.

Routes, trails, food, village, vibe etc.

My partner and I have had some personal setbacks last 3 weeks so moved our race entry to the ride to grand have a blast. It beats not doing the event.

Have fun its an incredible 3 days.

Anyone that can give an estimate of the length of the portage section. Reason i ask is i had a pretty big heel operation in march where my achilles was severed and reattached to the heel bone. Im good to ride now but im wondering if its not worth it for me to pack takkies just for this section on day one as my mtb shoes arnt the most comfortable. waste of a couple of mins but it can make or break months worth of rehab and a race.

It is 1,2km in length and will take 25 to 30 minutes to walk. 1f2d6086a651b35ee0acb932fbb0d817.jpg

Where most struggle is to comfortably carry their bikes up the steeper inclines. Perhaps pack a heel / ankle brace, put it on when you get off to port, and remove once at the top. You do not want to roll your ankle over. It also takes less space than running shoes.

I'll suggest you do put those takkies in your backpack.

The "steps" is high, and very uneven, with huge variances in height from the one to the other. Some to can just push your bike over, others you have to lift the front wheel over, others again needs the bike to be lifted up completely. It is of such a variation that you just cannot get into a rhythm.

Comfortable, soft sole shoes will help alleviate the strain on that Achilles.
