Our fifth Cyclosportif will start and finish at Simonsvlei Winery in Paarl. There are two route options: 97 km or 38.5 km.

While this is a road event, you are most welcome to do it on a road bike, mountain bike, cyclo cross bike, recumbent or a tandem

The 97 km will count towards your seeding for the 2018 Cape Town Cycle Tour.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The venue for the fifth Cyclosportif is Simonsvlei Winery. The route will take you out towards Stellenbosch over Helshoogte, past Wemmershoek, through the back of Paarl towards Wellington and then you finish after Suid Agterpaarl on the R101.

The 97 km route will have 3 water points and the 38.5 km route will have 1 water point. Cape Town water crisis: There will be a limited supply of water at the water points and riders are encouraged to bring along sufficient hydration for the event so that we don’t waste unused water afterwards.

To keep costs down on the 38.5 km route, there will be no medal.

Can't help but wonder if  hosting a race on almost an exact duplicate route of the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour 2 weeks before the race is going to hurt entries for the SCT? or both?

Oh well, at least it will be a good training ride for those taking their SCT seriously...

Save lots of people having to organize social ride to recky the route before the big race

So, with the D group at Durbie Dash receiving an upgrade to C, we won't see a BC combined start group at this event. What seeding did BC get? Wondering if those riders will now all be in B.

Looks identical to the Stellenbosch Tour (just different starting points along the route) and One Tonner middle distance.  I'm craving some variety to the Western Cape race routes.

We looked at hosting a proper race in WC, if you were able to twist the authorities arms, it would cost close to 650 rand per rider for 90 km

Based on how many riders?  (Checking how much sponsorship will bring costs down if possible)

Half of b-c got seeding of 13.5  (28/55) . I think thats B?

Rest is all C or worst seeding. (>16)

So will most likely have big C group if all that dit Durbie dash is doing Sportiff.

I could not resist - who said PPA were not on the hub? Please note their cycling interest as listed on the hub so must be True - MTB!!!

I think you guys are over-analysing this, not necessarily the same people doing every race?

On the day it is just about how many of each seeding group pitches up that determine the combinations.

I reckon 1000 riders. There are a lot of traffic intersections requiring a lot of traffic cops, permissions etc. The major issue is with the road works on the coast they wont let you start in the constania/tokai side.

This does give some perspective on why we have so few road events, we are quick to bash PPA & entry fees but it is not a trivial exercise to host a road race!
