"Bouncing" when locked out

I have a 29" X-large new Scott 940 with dual lock out. When I am riding on tar or on my rollers and I engage full lock out, the bike starts to bounce, with every pedal stroke. I have tried to adjust the rebound either way but am not having much success. Anyone have an idea what causes this?

Sounds to me like the shock is not locking out properly. Maybe just needs a service or someone to check out the damper. I'm sure someone like Droo will comment soon with a bit more insight.

New shock should not need a service.

As you state the bike is new, take it back to the shop and get it looked at.

My guess would be that the cable tension is not sufficient to completely lock the shock out.  Try increasing the tension, or manually pulling on the cable to see if you can get the shock locked out.

These "dual lockouts" work well if the cable tension for the fork and shock are set correctly, but if the one is slightly slack in relation to the other, the locking won't be synchronised, and you'll get one of the two not locking

Mmm, is this a Friday trolling thread from a 1 hit wonder?

How does it handle in locked out mode when riding it like it was meant to i.e off-road and not on rollers...or don't you ride off road?

Is it a case of a very uneven pedal stroke which is hidden by the squish and highlighted by the now rigid bike?

I have seen guys with heavy down strokes be almost unable to ride on a stationary bike/rollers/IDT.

Try a road bike on the rollers and on the road with a high cadence (like 100 or so) and see if you still bounce. If you do then it is your size and riding technique and not the bike.

Interestingly i recently came across the same issue. I never lock out my rear shock but the other day i was climbing a moerse hill and decided to try it. (hard gravel climb) and i got the same bouncing feeling. It actually is really unpleasant.

I recently got a new anthem frame but kept old shock. I can't remember that i ever had the issue on my old frame. I lock my fork out on almost all the climbs as i ride quite a plush setup on the front and when i lockout front i have no issues.

My solution was to unlock the shock again...i thought it was my bike telling me WTF are you doing!!

My solution was to go back to my middle setting (where i almost always ride) and issue resolved.

If a calling someone new to the forums a one hit wonder then maybe you should lighten up.

I ride it off road all the time and when I'm riding it uphill in the rough it doesn't seem to have the same effect.

Odd question but may the bounce not be a result of too low tyre pressure on a rigid system?

Tire pressure is correct as shock pressures back and front

Start with checking out if the shock is actually locking out. Those twinlock setups suck.

But I'm with Jewbacca here. I think a rough or choppy pedalstroke is the culprit.

I get it when I switch between my fullsus and hardtail. Fullsus hides alot of bad habits and techniques. Bad rhythm being one of them.

I also found it worse when pedaling at a high cadence.

Hope you get it sorted. Please let us know when you get it sorted.
