I will be based in Maastricht and it looks like great cycling country!  Anyone got any tips on where to go' date=' what to do regarding licensing etc.?[/quote']

Maastricht is a nice place! Close to Belgium and Germany.

For places to cycle, Vankenburg is only 30km away. It hosts the finish to Amstelgold, on top of the Cauberg, a short steep hill, not really a berg. This region is known as the Dutch Alps, it has lots of rolling hills (unlike the rest of the country.

Cycling is BIG over there, everybody has a bike, lots and lots of bike paths, the way motorists behave towards cyclists is a revelation.

PS nobody over there wears helmets.

Holland.....pas op vir die Kaas-Koppe' date=' die kan heel goed Koerse (Race) en zijn alle gekke(CRAZY) op den Fiets. Enjoy, lovely people, good atmosphere, and dont sound like Casper de Vries when you come back!!! LolThumbs%20Up [/quote']

ach wel nee, we zyn absoluut niet gek!! hoe kom je erby??

Willehond - will forward my uncles' email address to you via pm and you can contact him re races and licensing, both my cousins are serious cyclists..

Vulgar, my experience with the Dutch people I have worked with has been echt prettig and they have gone out of their way to arrange things for me.  Whatever happens though, I am VERY happy that I might sound like Casper de Vries, but I will never ever look like him!

Bobbie, thanks for the 'inside info'!  I would love to get going on that side as soon as I have work bedded down.  Let's hope my SA cyclo sport licence does not hold me back!

How exciting! Good luck en be sure to post some descent pics of the female cyclists over thereTongue

...and start another riot on the Hub?!  Let me concentrate on riding on the right side of the road first before I start taking photos on the fly.

Goed gaan Eugene!!!!

Sal in kontak bly en sal jou defnitief volgende jaar sien!!

Ciao van my en Monkeyman

We'll speak some more! But will have to train my eye to look out for some one new in SubVets Wink

Go well Willehond!

Ronelle' date=' thanks for being a great Hubber and friend.  Your generosity has been awesome, from lending me a powertap system (and opening my eyes to the power of power!) to taking all those awesome photos and sharing it with us and always being there with an encouraging word.  It is people like you that make the Hub great.  I honestly mean it.

Keep your eyes open for new Subvets (maybe even in Asap Strandloper kit!) and take loads of photos of them.  I want updates!

Cheers Willehond en geniet die scenery aan daai kant.

Cheers Reg Lizard en hou daai BMCtjie op sy tone op jou Spes.  Hy gaan net slap le sonder my op sy spoor!

Christie, I am going to stay in a house about a kilometre away from the Amstel Gold route and I can't wait to ride those hills.  Even the dutch say the Limburg area is cycling heaven, so it must be great.  I want to find a nice club in the area and get going as soon as possible.  Will just need a GPS (or tomtom as they say) to get around, because there are loads of little paths to get lost on!

I will take my helmet just in case though.  My wife won't let me on the plane without it!

Willehond.   The best of luck to you and your family.

Thanks Bateleur1, send PokerFace some encouragement, the guy has been off the bike for a couple of months now with a virus and needs some kind words.  The team needs him!
