Not a Rant or a Rave but is this the Reality?

Lets say you're a bike shop mechanic. And someone needs a wheel laced up. They bring you a 150 x 12 rear hub. And a 17mm wide hoop. What do you do?

Try not to wet my pants in front of said someone....

Then ask  them to bring in the frame to check the hub fits...

Assume there is a new downhill discipline on asphalt. Order some extra long spokes, throw on some white walled slicks and build away!!!

Or............

Engage in conversation with said customer, understand what he/she is trying to achieve, offer some expert advice, agree on way forward and execute.

Wish more bike shops had this approach ....

A bit of time to help a newbie understand the game builds a lasting relationship.

I have a very small workshop in Prince Albert .

Called. 2 bike shops in George last week looking for a replacement deraillier for a clients bike .

Both said. " mail us " which I did .

5 days later not even an receipt of my mail received .

A reputable bike shop near where I work orders bits from Chain Reaction instead of dealing with local distributer who is notorious for low stock

I was looking for a tacx blue tyre, my LBS don't stock it. I saw it on evobikes, placed an order for it and to make it count in terms of shipping, I bought levers and brake pads. Yesterday, around 2pm I get a call from Evobikes to say they ran out of stock for the brake pads and would offer me another brand at the same price. This morning I get a call from the couriers and they delivered the package at 11am. My fuel costs to collect would have worked out more than the courier cost. I got it basically within less than 24 hours. I am a big fan of the LBS, but loyalties aside, they need to pull up their socks if this is what an online store can do

I'm afraid it's reality.

Same experience here. Wanted to buy a Specialized Prevail helmet. Went to THE Specialized store in Cape Town thinking they would stock them. Nope, nothing in my size. OK, can I please order one? Sure...let me take your details...No call back. So a few days later, ordered the same helmet from the Specialized store in Tygervalley near my work. They didn't call back either after I told them about my experience at the other store. OK, fine, so Evobikes got my business and I bought a KASK Mojito.

A few months later (i.e. on Monday) I decide to buy a new bike. Email the same Specialized store in CT above asking for the pricing and specs of a Pyga Stage (they're one of two Pyge dealers in CT)...still waiting for their response. Bought a second hand Stage Max yesterday off The Hub instead.

Don't think I'll be back to that bike shop again.

The best about this is that EVOBikes has a bricks and mortar shop also - (not too far from me) - so I get to pop in, chat, browse, talk *** etc as well.  But if I'm busy at work and need something I know I can order from the comfort of my desk...

Our office is close to the "big shop" in Bellville.

Drive past them, drive past the two in Durbanville, and then buy from EVOBIKES

Last week they even asked how items of a previous purchase was going    Seems I have been spending too much time there
