I wanted the same thing as you, after trawling the interenet i settled on a 1 year subscription with TrainerRoad so the planned training blocks and sessions are sorted, I run it on an old TACX Flow IDT using an old IPAD2 with my GARMIN ANT+ speed and cadence sensor with a wahoo 30 pin dongle. I then educated myself on how to read a performance management chart and downloaded a free one off the net. Us my TSS scores and basically coach myself.

I take the TSS scores off the TR sessions and enter them on the PMC which gives a graph of your TSB / ATL / CTL. /this wat you can plan your form to be ready at a certain date for a race.

The only thing I lack is working out my TSS score for weekend out rides as i don't have a Power meter on my bike. Si still looking for a solution for this one

You still got the lekker colnago? Haven't seen you for a while.

You can take your avg hrmax % from the workout and multiply by the duration in hrs... eg 3.5 hrs @ 80% of max will give TSS of 280. Its not 100% accurate as using the powermeter, but its close.

Training Peaks calculates a hrTSS value for rides where you have heart rate data but not power data. Provided you have your threshold heart rate set properly you should get pretty similar values to the normal power based TSS.

Only problem is that heart rate is less objective than power (I've done exactly the same workout (power wise) on my IDT a few days apart and had differing average and max heart rates, so a different hrTSS). So it's a bit less consistent but its also a lot cheaper than dropping 10k to get a power meter for the bike.

Why do you want to improve your seeding rapidly? There are many skills besides pure fitness that are learnt over time. Bunch riding in a race is a big one. You can be ultra fit but find yourself in the wind and badly placed in the group you are going to find yourself struggling.

My view on coaches, if you get more enjoyment out of cycling because of it, go for it. You certainly don’t need one to do well at cycling.

That being said I would suggest Jarryd from science to sport that rides for us [emoji16]

Personally not coached, I just try hang onto the LPC boys some mornings!

Thanks for the info

I'm currently using the online TSS calculator which uses your FTP and then you load your HR info time in the diff zones from your ride and it calcs your TSS. In my opinion it gives a fairly high TSS score, but its better than nothing. I will read up on your link

I'm an E rider, a lazy one too, I dig riding in no mans land. I know exactly what to do if I want to ride A, I must put in a bit more effort, but I'm lazy. I do enjoy riding my bicycles, i will probably fall just short of 10 000km for 2017. But if you motivated to be a # or $ rider and respond well to coaching, then go for it. In another code I played there was a coach who unfortunately I only had for one season, we clicked well and the following year I made the provincial tertiary team. So find the right and go for it

Hit the nail on the head there. I too believe I'm full of potential to be a more competitive rider, but I'm too lazy to follow a structured program.

That and the number of beers I knock down in the pub seem to have caught up to me in my 30's.

I don't need a coach, I need someone who regulates my carbo-loading
