If you take any email in your inbox, select the relevant text, Copy. Then Paste it into your Word document, then it would have the same effect. Which in the same breath means you cannot trust every word displayed because you are now in your Word document and no longer showing the exact email. Either way, sloppy editing from the writer. Pretty sure there are better ways that the mainline press typically quotes emails.
