Well yes maybe... but you know all about the Epic and are contributing to a thread about the Epic and know very little or nothing about another facet of the sport. So I'd say you fit exactly in the mold of the typical SA mountainbiker.

My informal poll revealed that nobody outside my gravity oriented chommas had any idea who Brett Rheeder is...

Never heard of him....whats his claim to fame?

The selling out is a bit of hype. There are only 100 early bird entries available that sell out. Everyone else can still go into the lottery to get entries, if they wish.

I honestly think we as S.A. suckers get taken for a ride here. There is no way you sell out in 10 seconds. Remember, the foreign entries earn more income for the new corporate owner. From there they just make oodles more money off that willing participant. Oh yes, remember they can hide behind their corporate sponsor entries for their local "content". An audit on this process could be interesting!!

Wow. Great job with that repair! I wonder if the top riders would even bother with such a makeshift repair.

Huh? Can't imagine selling 100 entries for THE high profile mtb event in a few seconds is suspicious?

Its only in this country that MTB is seen through the marathon lens almost exclusively, so Rheeder and his achievements are far more widely known world wide than here in blinkered SA.

So true.

Don't wanna take anything away from the marathon scene, I myself follow it and love taking part (at the lowest possible level). But it does suck that in SA hardly anyone knows anything about the other segments of mtb.

When I posted a 20km ride on Strava the other day (up and down Helderberg routes), after which I was buggered - one of my "marathon" friends commented asking why the ride was so short - had to explain it was a "down" day.

Not that I care what others think - but the more traction gravity riding gain in SA the more awesome trails (like Helderberg, Jonkers, etc) we will have.

Anyway, that was off topic.

Brett Rheeders earrnings in comparison to the Epic winner's earning seems very reasonable to me. Slopestyle is a more spectator friendly sport, so naturally it will have mre viewers which = more marketing for brands = more money for the athletes.

Pinner bru, you win kit of the day!

Collect another beer when passing Dead Mans Tree ... :P

Someone else had the bike ... to go with your kit though!
