I entered the ballot and was lucky enough to get an entry. Seriously contemplating doing this race. Has anyone done it before?

I've also received an entry for this year's race, and it will be my first one.

 

The thought of riding 160km is daunting, but I've looked at a few YouTube videos recorded by riders in prior years, and it seems rather flat most of the way, except for the two main climbs at Leith Hill and Box Hill.

 

I'm definitely going to give it a go, as the vibe and the opportunity to ride past all those famous landmarks and finishing in front of Buckingham Palace is a must-do!

According to the email 80k applied and 25k received entries.

Both myself and the missus got in as well. I somehow get the feeling that foreigners had a higher probability of winning the ballot, just like they basically have guaranteed entry into CTCT. Makes sense, they pay more and are tourists that wouldn't necessarily have been in town otherwise.

I blame Zwift for getting me interested in this race!

Box hill I ride regularly. It’s not bad at all so don’t worry too much about it. I did not get an entry .

That’s great news! Was worried about the distance as 94.7km has always been the longest ride I do and not very often. 160km on this terrain seems easier?

You should try riding clarens to fouriesburg or around golden gate, not everything in the free state is flat

Please give us a review of the trip when it happens and also whether you went with the tour package or solo.

I have done it before. Box Hill is nothing, Leith Hill is the steepest of the climbs, but not too long.

 

If you are taking strain, they have shortcuts that you can take to cut-out Leith and Box hills.

 

Go do it. You will enjoy it!
