Bike Rack on back of Camping Trailer?

Just for reference, it's not a top end camp trailer but does what I need it to do.

I already pack nose heavy and am well aware of the impact of not packing correctly.

I think I'll have a test with packing some heavy stuff at the rear and take it for a spin.

I already keep ammo boxes, and wood towards front, and two gas bottles plus the small heavy stuff in the nosecone..

I think it'll be okay, just down to proper packing.

Tows like a dream already so just hoping I don't mess with that at all.

there's no space for a towbar on that trailer, surely?

looks like a spare wheel mount is required.

and i really don't think that there's any issues with loads.

we're talking 30kgs of bike on a 500kg trailer.

There definitely is, it's underneath and currently just turned around in the slot.

I think you're right. Actually realised that if it's really a concern, I can fill the Jerry cans and if they're in the holders in front, that should offset the weight just fine.

watch your weight distribution. Do not pack nose or tail heavy.

As stated above, max load on most tow balls is very low (I was under the assumption it was 50kg but I see it mentioned above as 75kg).

Keep the heaviest stuff over the axles.

Towbar rated to 110 so should be safe.

the more I look at the photo the more I wonder ...

How difficult would it be to remove that "Step" ??  Bolt on ??  Welded in place ??

Would be SO much easier to fit the bikes behind the Fortuner .....

I know man... But I check and the step is welded on. Seam welded too, not even spots.. The plastic is a thin little cover, not the whole step like I previously thought.

Have you considered that a platform that extends behind the trailer may scrape the ground if you drive through a dip ? I know there is a term, something like departure angle that describes how the hight (or lack thereof) of the rear of the vehicle behaves when off road.

I certainly have.. While the trailer is built to be a pretty capable off roader, my FT not 4x4 so no ridiculous climbs or drop offs. Most hectic will be dirt roads, really.

You're right tho, it's called departure angle for the rear and approach angle for the front:)

Why not remove the nose cone and put to thule pro ride roof racks sideways across the trailer in that area, will not shift weight as it will merely replace nose cone weight, you will just lose a little packing space which is not the end of the world, you can always convert the jerry can holders to hold ammo boxes.

If I packed all of my cargo noseward, does anyone with towing experience think that 30kgs on the very back of the trailer will make a noticeable difference? I guess that's really the crux of the matter...

I also realize that bike frames are designed to carry major stresses when a personal actually rides them, so the possible bouncing isn't a concern anymore really... But safe towing is..

Just as long as your weight on the hitch is correct you should be fine - moving 30kg forward should be manageable if you pack carefully - can't see you haveing an issue - I regularly tow 2000kg odd behind my Touareg and it's not an issue to move weight around on the trailer to get the hitch weight right - kind of mandatory when you have a tail heavy car on a car trailer to  balance the load correctly - youtube has several videos on how to do it accurately.
