New Helmet - choices

I am in the market for a new helmet.

My first choice was a Spez prevail 2 but after seeing Clint Gibbs review on youtube i dont know if i still want one. Their previous generation prevail was a lot better-looking helmet in any case.

I ride MTB but i want a lightweight helmet that allows ALOT of air through to cool my vetkop. And it must also not look too bad either, what other options are out there?

Have been riding with Rudy Project Sterling helmets for the past couple of years but i want something else now.

At R3500 it's at the low end of the premium helmets price wise. I'd check out the brow issue, it might be a personal fit problem. But when he says 225 dollars is really expensive for a helmet then we're getting ripped in general.

Also check the propero (3 I think) from spez. Non-premium version of the prevail at about 1600 bucks.

Though if you're going, at CTCT expo you'll find a great deal. I picked up my Giro Synthe for around R1400 last year.

KASK mojito. I've got one and its super light and it fits really well. The only thing I don't like is; I wash my helmets in the shower fairly often and it has a leather chin strap and I am scared to get it very wet. I am very careful about washing this one compared to my others in order to not let the leather get wet.

What I've personally found is that some helmet shapes fit me better and some not at all.  In my case Bell fits perfectly. So I would suggest to go and fit various makes and find what feels most comfortable and secondly what looks the best.

Agreed, I have a louis garnau that I am constantly fighting with. Doesn't fit my head so lekker. It has a light on the back though so that's why I persist with it.

Bontrager have just released their new Rally and Circuit helmets that have integrated light/camera mounts that have a breakaway point (held in place with strong magnets) so if you are in a crash the mount will come away from the helmet to prevent pressure points. Both have MIPS... they also come with a crash replacement policy which sees the helmet replaced free of charge within the first year....

I have a Prevail (1) , a Propero 2 and recently bought a Propero 3 .

It is by far the best of the 3 . Slightly heavier that the Prevail , but WAY lighter on the wallet .....

Cooling is also much improved on the 3 .

I saw this and the fact that it goes so low at the back i was worried it might be too hot? maybe i should just pop around to a spez shop and go check them all out.

So popped down to my local spez dealer and they actually had an old prevail in the stock room so i got it, even got a super nice deal on it and it fits like a glove. Can't wait to take it out tomorrow.
