GrahamS2 Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I've just been through the same set of issues with the Premium Soft Strap. It's a well documented issue with them. I ended up getting a Polar strap yesterday to use with the Garmin transmitter, worked well yesterday, will see if it holds up better than the Garmin rubbish (apparently it does).
Schnavel Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 There was someone selling them on here not so long ago http://go.shr.lc/2D7Tmze Yup that's the one. I bought directly from the distributor in SA (https://4iiii.co.za/heart-rate.html) According to the supplier, it's 10x more sensitive and 5x more response - I can't confirm those numbers, but I haven't had any issues since using it. Fantastic service - it was shipped the very next day and I received it the following day. I haven't looked back since.

Please keep us updated on the result you get. Will only be able to get to an agent myself in 2 weeks, to buy a new strap if this works.

Polar strap was R549 before discount.
Sammyboy Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 If it is not the strap, often the cause is the batteries. I had problems with very high readings suddenly and it just seemed erratic.Thought i would try my luck at Navworld, The service guy said Energiser batteries are often below spec. I had used a new Energiser battery and when the Navworld guy changed it for another brand the unit was fine. Also have had problems using Energiser 2032 lithium batteries in powertap hubs. Anyway, now stay away from that brand for these particular batteries, which is a pain because they seem to be the most common.
Spinnekop Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 Confirm the previous posts. New HR strap and go Polar.orThe Wahoo works well (although the strap is crappy - sags during a ride) and with the Wahoo you have bluetooth and you can play with HRV apps on your phone. Also learned my lesson with Energiser. Only Duracel or Maxell

It would start out at 200+ bpm or 50. From there anything could happen, even maybe recording correctly for a bit. There are an absolutely awesome range of problems others have reported as well. This is my first Garmin and honestly it’s been a nightmare.
Dexter-morgan Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I have purchased a Polar about 3 years ago, it is now discolored from sweat and still works like a charm.

Dexter-morgan Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 I have only had 1 issue with 1 garmin that I bought from their Unboxed deals, They then swapped it out for a New FR235, otherwise Zero issues, not even with Vitality.

King_Crispy Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Mine also started doing it yesterday. I've never had any issues before. The only thing that has changed is I updated the software on my 520.Could it be a glitch in the software that's causing this "new" fault?
Andrew Buckley Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 I use a polar strap with a Garmin unit. First one lasted until I washed it and then started behaving just like a Garmin strap. I have used the second one for about 2 years with no problems, but have not washed it - looking pretty grubby but working perfectly.
