In the market for a new Lid and can’t seem to make up my mind.

Focused purely on racing XCO/marathon so looking for something light, well ventilated, looks and of course, good at protecting the kop.

Have a budget of about R3 000.

Have my eyes on the Giro Aeon, Scott Centric Plus or the Smith Overtake.

Anything else I should have my eye on and any bad comments about the ones above?

I’m a always found Met have super light lids with great protection and vents. They also have the rubber sweat guide that kills any issues with drip and stuff in your eyes. Also Know a lot of guys run road type helmets in Xc / marathon. Things like spez’ Prevail etc. if you can find a Louis Garneu Course helmet it’s a hell of a thing.

A lot of makers are beginning to shy away from mips as the research is beginning to show it’s not a big benefit over a well designed and applied helmet like Uvex have shown.

Spez have great ventilation but don't fit my head very well... Well, not as well as others.

Kask have the best fit and are super quality, but are not incredibly well ventilated. (only rode with the mojito tho)

I've heard good things about bell and POC, but pricing is difficult to deal with...

It would be hard to find anything lighter that the aeon. The aeon is a good helmet with good fit. If you can, put them on and feel the fit. One of my best helmets was a bell alcera. Unfortunately they were discontinued otherwise I would have bought one again.

Should have grabbed one while available on CWC's CTCT deals ... R1400.

I did see that, unfortunately my head is on the smaller side so a large would have been too big!

I went through the same last week and ended up buying the spez prevail 1 (got it for dirt cheap as well) and i've been riding with it since and damn i thought my rudy project sterling was light but this thing is a feather and the ventilation is superb, it cools my head like nothing before. i keep forgetting its on my head

Catlike whisper?

Ended up buying a Giro Aeon.

After that tried a Scott Centric Plus on and regretted my decision of the Aeon. Money was spent and the Aeon will be used until its served its time, its comfy just not as comfy as that Centric plus I tried on.

I've been using an IXS Trail RS Evo and have been very happy.  It's light, comfortable, breathes well and looks cool.
