I was also 1 of the guys saying Reba and Sid are the same thing but having both now the SID is different but only a little not only lighter but smoother as well. Having the same stantions and lowers I can't see where they saved the weight. I have to say this in the Reba's defense it's only noticeable when riding them back to back.

I also had both. I found the Reba to be plusher, and the sid way to flexible for my liking. Ended up putting the sid on my wife's bike and keeping the Reba.

But I'm a bit of a biking Neanderthal.

My sid had a different damper and uppers, further they looked the same to me.

Love my RS1. Have been riding one for about a year on my tallboy. Ran almost every fork you can think of on it before the RS1 (lefty, SID brain, Revelation, etc). Still love riding it. Service it about every 6 months or so. Cost is R350 at Spez. Fork is SO smooth. Fore/Aft stifness is awesome although torsional stiffness not as good as say a lefty but you must really smash it to notice it. On rocky terrain it really shines. Try and take one for a test ride, you will notice what i mean.

If a service is costing you R 350, you're only getting a lowers oil change. Get it sent in and done properly every second service.

Any update on this. Is the fork a win if you have the predictive hub? I am also looking at buying one second hand and it comes with the hub. i am a heavier rider (97kgs) and looking for a better and bulkier fork than my Reba. It looks silly on my massive frame.

At your weight, and I'm guessing your XL frame, I don't think a reba, SID or RS1 would be a good choice.

You would probably be better off getting something like a FOX 34 - it weighs more, but would be much better and stiffer for your weight.

Yup XL frame with a extended seatpost from england....... Im not too bothered about weight, i would rather have a better fork that fits my frame. Thanx for the reply!

The RS1 has a different hub configuration, and needs to be run with the 'predictive hub' in any case

I think my RS-1 is a brilliant fork. Its stiffer than a SID or Fox32 foreaft and when out on the trail the slightly lower tortional stiffness (twist) isn't an issue. the damping is superb. You must however keep a hand on the maintenance schedule and ensure that the hydraulic remote is serviced as well. If that thing gives the slightest hint of a problem it affects the damping as well.

I'd buy one again in a heart beat.

It could do with a diet though

i am building wheels for the bike as it is, and the hub is coming with the fork in this case, so the fork will work with the sram predictive hub. but it seems functionality doesnt outweigh the looks if i understand it right.

I heard they're as stiff as an overcooked noodle. Reviews are terrible. Besides looks, I know of no reason to get this fork.

Its a fork. It works like any other fork does.

It is not an Enduro or trail fork. Its an XC fork. When used within the riding limits of the discipline it performs very very well.

Is it as stiff as Fox34?

no its not. But then neither is a Fox 32 SC or a RS SID WC.

ITs just a very expensive (when purchased new) XC fork that's supple over small bumps and very composed as far as its damping goes.

What is the intended purpose of the bike you're building?

Mainly XC riding/racing. Epic and the likes. Not a black route (jonkershoek black) rider at all. I am pretty cautious and controlled. Getting a lot of good reviews on the Fox 34 Stepcast.

For me it'd be the Reba, to be honest. I don't like the super duper lightweight forks, as they lose out in terms of stiffness, don't have any benefits ito damping circuits and controls compared to the "normal" forks, and there's only a small amount of weight difference. But, if it's the difference between going for a normal 32 and a 34 stepcast, then the 34 stepcast would win any day of the week.

RS1 = blegh. Great small bump compliance, shaite everywhere else. Would rather get a Lefty Ocho if you're looking at the RS1.
