After all the years of getting up at 5am to ride I'm awake then anyway and get up, not one for just 'lying there'

The irony is that I don't have to go ride at that time anymore ... But I do enjoy that time of the morning and also once the ride is done nothing can derail it later in the day

I only set an alarm if I need to make sure I'm up at a certain time for an event or appointment, 9 out of 10 times I'm awake anyway

Sounds like me (except for riding buddy...when I train I do so alone, much faster).

I often ride alone, bar wkds. Although when I can’t get up wkds I do solo missions.

It’s tougher to wake up and rise if you haven’t slept enough

Set an alarm for bedtime.

Place glass of water next to bed.

Sleep lekka.

Set an alarm. Don’t listen to yourself whining. Get up.

Avoid snooze buttons. ⚠️

Drink glass of water as it’ll wake up your system. ????

I bluff myself when I set my alarm for 5am to get up and go cycling for a 100km.  I've done it a million times.  I just switch of the alarm and go back to sleep and when I wake up at around 9-10ish, I can only cycle for around 30-40km.

My wife gets angry when I set the alarm and just go back to sleep. (this always happens on a Saturday)

This is why I prefer to ride in the afternoons.

Not here in the Cape (if you don't like wind).

I love my early morning rides with the cycling group.

Sometimes we are also greeted with the wind.

But I keep an afternoon ride or two out for wind training.

I usually wake up at 6 am wait in bed for 15min then slog on with the work day.

But as of this week we started the new normal schedule, 4AM!!!

SO starting work again soon and with Baba in the house I get to train while she is home 4-5am.

After that baby is my problem till 7am.

Considered evenings but it just never happens.

That said last 2 days been tiny bit of hell, yesterday allergies pwned me. Today Baba was awake at 3am....... snooze got employed.

100% on enough sleep. Some ppl can function on little to no sleep, not me. I have sleep issues and the sleep I have is generally not quality sleep. Which makes getting up when you in your deepest sleep very difficult.

Must try the glass of water trick ????

Wind schmind..... try deal with JHB people rushing to work/school run moms/taxis in the mornings.

I too used to love getting up earlier and riding with mates, but lately the risk outweighs the desire I guess. When I am in CPT, I get up early and go riding on my own to Stellies or GB, no problemo.

Sorry, bit of a morbid post on a fun thread.

Agreed on enough sleep. I found an extension of the iPhone alarm called "bedtime". Basically you set your bed time and wake-up time, it shows the amount of hours you will be sleeping so you can adjust the times if need be. Then it has a little tune it plays 10 mins before bed time, works like a charm!!
