Article on singletrackworld of the new range of Stumpjumpers - no more speculating needed, the Camber is indeed dead and has been replaced with a shorter travel Stumpjumper

Spanish Special

To launch the new Stumpjumper, Specialized invited Singletrack and a herd of other journos out to Ainsa in Spain to spend five days in a 500-year old monastery eating far too much cheese and cured meats. In addition to over-eating, we also spent three days riding some pretty incredible singletrack around the foothills of the Pyrenees.

so where is the scoop from Bonus?!

Sad - I swapped Epic to Camber and love it But I hear camber are only popular in SA

I do wonder about insurance as you can no longer replace with an equivalent , well not exact like for like

Well it's not really gone... The Stumpjumper short travel is what the Camber would have turned into in it's next iteration in any case, so for the guys that love the Camber this would be the one to go for. And for insurance purposes, if they cannot replace with an equivalent they pay out - although I assume in this case they will replace with SJ short travel if the client is happy going that route.

On insurance though - Spaz keep a ton of extra frames for warranty and insurance claims. I had my '15 Camber replaced with the exact same frame earlier this year under warranty. I was kinda excited thinking I was going to get the newer model, but they still had quite a few 15's in stock for exactly my case...

If I understood the videos that I was watching they have made the bike "bigger" and the reach is now greater for the respective sizes.
The biggest reason I bought the Camber was because it was relatively short and the only bike that I have found to be such a good fit for me.

If that is the case then Im glad I bought before they are no longer available, but it may leave an issue should I need a replacement.

Go a size down, and fit it with a bigger dropper.

Did someone hack your account? What's next, you going to recommend crossmarks as well?

LOL.

Look, I'm, all for the longer / lower / slacker thing, and it works. BUT. If you've already got the perfect reach figure for you, and the new models come out with the reach figures at 20 - 30mm longer than before, it's a great thing for stability but may not necessarily work in your instances, especially if the base you're coming from was one of the original backers of the long and slack movement.

Take me, for example. Large reign with 458mm reach and 480mm seat tube, limiting me to a 150mm dropper. New large reign has 470mm reach or something, medium has 455 or something, but critically has a shorter seat tube, which can allow a longer dropper. Same reach as current, with more clearance when things get rowdy. Hence, with the new reign, I'd get a medium.

I switched from 448mm reach to 475mm, but because the seat tube angle went from 74.5 to 76.6 the reach feels the same. So if "longer" is paired with a steeper STA it can feel the same, or feel cramped if you were to size down (while seated).

Yeah, agreed. That (ETT) would be a very large concern for seated pedalling.

Yeah, I get what you are saying.

Tested the last version of the Stumpy. Really liked how the ride felt, playful and responsive compared to my enduro. Kinda left me with some buyer's remorse afterwards.

However, I feel my bike allowed me to progress more as a rider than what I'd be able to achieve on the Stumpy.

If the new Stumpy was 10 mm longer in the reach (for a medium), I'd be considering it as an upgrade. Can't go large, as you also pointed out, most manufacturers are still oblivious to the benefit of shorter seat tubes and accompanying longer droppers.

So I am willing to put money on the fact that within the next 6 months there will be a Tallboy vs. Stumpjumper ST thread.

The question is .... where will you be putting your vote!!!

That is a tough one, like trying to decide who was hotter, Margaret Thatcher or Golda Meir.

I am very very glad I got mine just in time. The Camber is the Leatherman of MTB - does everything brilliantly!

As will the Stumpy ST.

It's like when an actor on Egoli died or got fired in real life, they just replace the actor.  Same character, different look.
