Not "scammer" per se but total time waster

There is more to this story than just hiking the price, twice.

Agreed. Even the R35k is not bad for that bike - retail is around R50k.

Chrissie/Chris/Christian, however, needs a few lessons in humility, honesty, transparency, integrity, blackmail and law.

This thread is a lesson in nothing more than integrity, and it keeps on giving.

What did he pay for the bike? ~R60k I would have mentioned that as a seller as that is a huge discount.

The fact that he wanted to sell the bike originally for R25k has got me wondering, that is a massive haircut for a six month old bike. Either the bike is actually stuffed and warranty won't cover it, or this guy is not that sharp. Or both.

If I was in the market I would be interested as it's my size. I'd be having a look at the stanchions and all drivetrain before my wallet came out

Oh no you just made this guy add another R5k to his bike ????????????????

maybe bikehub can add a "bidding" section to the classifieds

I'd be more than willing to throw in a box of smarties to sweeten the deal with this schaaister

Can somebody in the CPT region please meet up with Chris and tell us more about the actual state of the bike and the person. I am sure someone has 5mins to spare to give us all closure on this vary interesting topic.

Preferably someone with 10 000+ post count, because the suspicion level on this thread justifies a proper Hubber to investigate.

Yes, so I reached out to him, and simply got a "if you want to see it you can come to me" after asking to meet in a public area in CPT.

This was @ R30k.

Maybe he is willing to meet up @ R35k.

Posted a wanted advert looking for brakes on 04/05, SwtCraigMachine sent me a PM and commented on my post saying that he had a few different types available which one would interest me.

I replied within a few hours and again a day later letting him know i was interested in a set on offer, he has been online since then the last time this morning, but absolutely no reply.

Why offer something and then go into complete silence about it? If you don't want to sell rather make no comment at all.

Just my 2 cents.

OFF TOPIC!!

I think the issue is China over here probably forked out R75k. and didnt want to mention that knowing the actual price.

Maybe its worth the extra bucks as it can change size...

I really wish they could. It's a separate discussion for another thread, but I used to love selling bike stuff on ebay; the bidding system determines the "correct" price for the bike. I wonder if ebay owns the IP for that concept and that is why there aren't loads of other sites doing it.

RRP is 5199$Can (R50,500) - I wonder how much he actually paid for it.

One thing we have forgotten  is that it is an XL which means Chris is probably an XL so he can like totally donder us...or...send us lawyers letters. One of the two.

The issue here is if this dude IS actually trying to sell the bike, made a couple of mistakes and is just really bad with people.

This thread is pretty close to cyber bullying. I am not saying it's not hilarious, just that some people do make mistakes but due to some sort of flaw in their personality don't deal with it very well.

Whether they run away, lie, get aggressive etc the knee jerk reaction is their 'default setting' so quite difficult to change.

Sorry to be the Tuesday loser, but I do think lets lay off here. This sort of continual bashing, especially on a personal level can lead people to a very dark place.

Besides, there are plenty of guys on here selling things WAY above recommended asking price. Christian hasn't really ripped anyone off yet, so this Swen Lauer type bashing is probably a bit harsh.

Leave the guy. He has, in a rather stuttered way, admitted he was wrong and is willing to move on at the new price.

Call me a killjoy, but this isn't nice. Funny, but not nice

There is a very real chance that we are being unfair towards the guy, but we need to establish the real condition of the bike before letting this go.

It is our responsibility to protect each other and especially the less experienced Hubbers by flushing out the Conmen/women within our ranks. Otherwise we will see another thread next week from a member who was done-in by this sort of seller who is less than forthcoming with the actual condition of the product for sale.

The ends do not justify the means, so we can definitely adjust our approach to flushing these guys out.

I still hold firm with my initial guess that this is a young guy who still needs to figure out how the world actually works instead of the world his Baby-Boom parents brought him up in: a protected bubble where you get what you want, even if you change your mind three times.

{Allot of generalization in this post, so let me spare you on commenting on that. There is a reason why Generalization is prevalent, because it is generally true. My last paragraph is a guess, not a statement, happy to concede if Christian turns out to be a 40-something year old Actuary, but I doubt it.}
