Urgently need advice

Hi bike hubbers,

I urgently need some advice on buying a new bike. As I am a lady of small frame (63kg and 155cm) I want to know your opinion

Budget maximum R23 000

I have narrowed down my choice of bikes to:

 

Merida Big Seven XT edition 27.5 small frame

(Unsure about the Manitou shox and also there is only the red color available which I don't like that much)

 

Trek x caliber 9 29'er small frame

(Unsure about the brand, because Trek is not a very known name)Hi bike hubbers,

 

If there is any other suggestions please will you be ao kind to inform me.

Have a look at Giant Liv Embolden 2. They specialise in women-specific bikes. 27.5 inch, and they go to XS in size. I am 170cm and have a M, so a XS might just be perfect for you. It’s a 120mm dual-sus perfect for trail/XC. Upgraded from a hardtail and never looked back.

Emily Batty rides a Trek. She had done pretty ok in getting good results on a Trek. When buying there are many shops that offer test rides on their demo bikes. Have a look in the classifieds here as their are many bargains for higher specced bikes for the price of a new lower specced bike.

What many people don't know is that the founder is ex South African, hence the Afrikaans name.

 

Trek has been through a couple of distributors in SA over the years and hasn't had the exposure it should have, however they have stabilized of late.

 

If you don't like red, don't consider the Merida. Nothing worse than climbing on to a bike that you don't like. Whether it's the colour, the shape or name, you should like what you ride.

@Engel-a unfortunately I stay just outside Worcester and work in Worcester. So I want to be able to take my bike to a registered dealer. In Worcester we have a regisw Merida and Trek dealer.

 

Thank you for your suggestions, still unsure if I should buy a 29'er for my size because currently I ride a 27.5. Also if choosing between Manitou Shock and RoxShox.. I think any of us will choose the RoxShox

Of the two, definitely the Trek.

 

They offer very good value at the moment and as said before, they are one of the largest cycle brands globally and (if there is such a thing) a "premium" American mass brand.

Trek all the way! After Giant they are the biggest bike manufacturer in the world - much bigger (and better in my opinion) than Merida.

Brandon Semenuk and Brett Rheeder are both Trek ambassadors.

 

It may sound silly but just because of what I have seen those two kids do on Trek bikes, I really want my next bike to be a Trek.
