Doing my first one this year. Looking forward to it.

Pretty packed schedule as everyone has mentioned above (although I didn't see anyone mention Satellite Classic the week before the Amashova)

Please see below for reasons:

Did Sattelite Classic once, wasn't too impressed with it or ASGs involvement in it to be honest, haven't entered since. Plenty of other nice events taking place that time of year.

Where are you based? If its Durban, you need to come and ride with us. Give me a shout on 0837776796, I'm Chairman of East Coast Cycling Club.

I'm in the Upper Highway, so I was thinking maybe Bring It On Cycles or West Cycle Club, it would make sense as they're closer. Thanks for the offer though [emoji106]

Bring It On are very hardcore.  They take no prisoners and leave no survivors!  Westville are much more relaxed but still have a pretty strong A-Batch, plus they start their rides at Oscars in Hillcrest.

Germiston Wheelers are touring down, starting on the Thursday, cycling via Volksrust, Ladysmith and PMB.

Red Train will be there, most likely in BL.

Haven't done this race since '15, but not doing the extended distance event. Looking forward to it.

Nice to know that you guys will have a good base and I can just watch you guys from the back

Getting really amped for this one, my 2nd time doing the race.

Bettered my seeding considerably in the leadup and prep for this race. Probably won't be able to hang onto A-Batch if I get seeded there, so will drop down to B and try to hang onto the front guys during that first long uphill section.

I just hope I don't have mechanicals all weekend again like last year.

2 broken derailleur hangers, DA9000 rear derailleur and a Zipp303 rear wheel sucks to replace. And I only saw the first 36km of the race.

I am really also just going to get the weekend away from life as a whole and spend a nice weekend with my family minus the in laws and all the rest of the vultures of society.

How is the first long uphill?

Doing my first Shova this year.

Its at the beginning of the race and its long. :D

But seriously it has some parts that are steeper but it is the length that gets most. The problem is really not that climb but the ones that come later in the race and are generally steeper - add to that your state of fatigue and they become much harder than the first climb.

The first one hurts because your legs are still cold since the start is downhill and then you head straight into it.

Will VA be riding the 106 or 160km route?

VA will be riding the 106km. All licensed prize categories will be riding the 106km. Have a good ride!

faaaaaark - sounds like Suiker with that uphill start and then you feel the other climbs later when you fatigued.

Thanks S14
