We estimated on cycling 40kms per hour!

Have fun and see you at the finish

40kms/h, with roughly 1000m of climbing in the extra ~60km....

I'll be having lots of things, mostly regret, not so sure about fun ;)

An interesting challenge, at least.

Seeding: PD 912, starting at 6h25

I am riding in budy batch with a friend who is doing his first ever bicycle race.

It will be my 6th Amashova. My previoud best time was 3h32 so I am really hoping to get somewhere around 3h20.

Same. But you enjoy that!

Last time I rode A-batch of a proper event they dropped me on the first proper hill, I had to ride pretty much solo from there.

This time round the B-Batch will probably be close behind, so might just then catch a tow with them.

I'll make the final call on race day as to whether to drop back to B or "wait" for them to catch up to me.

Same here, easier to write in for that batch as we then don't have to drop back too far to my father in law.

may just be a better option to start in B.

A starts quick and you may burn too many matches early on trying to hold on. [talking from experience]

Funny thing, I checked the finish times of A and B batch for last year... The front 10 guys of B batch beat the Front 40 guys of A batch by 1 min...

So won't be a relaxing ride by any account either way.

But I think you are right, I am more of a weak-A rider leaning towards a strong-B rider, so rather start in B and take it from there.

veebee,  in your opinion is A batch Shova comparable to A batch Tour Durban intensity wise  ? Thanks

The heavier dudes generally suffer from the start of Shova. If you are not a good climber or able to hang with the lighter folk and you are of the larger size many are dropped here and often the same up every climb. A batch does not let up on the gradients and you goto hang on - similar to the climb to Pinetown on Tour of Durban

B batch tends to work together more while the A's go on the attack alot more trying to split the bunch. Well thats what I noticed.
