Family friendly trails in Gauteng

Hi all.

I recently bought both my significant other and I bikes. We're looking at riding some easy trails for fun, but want our 2 y/o daughter to tag along in the carrier I have strapped to the back of my bike.

Since I haven't been to any trails yet I was wondering if you guys could suggest some that are simple enough that I can ride it with her on the back. I'm located in Boksburg, ao I was hoping to get info on Benoni Country Club specifically, but any info on other suitable trails anywhere in GP would be awesome.

Thanks in advance!

Last Friday of the month at night (about 7ish) a group of guys get together and ride a ride called Critical Mass.

Its easy 12 kms around inner streets of jhb with a stop for beers at half way mark.

Lots of kids on bikes and lots of kids on carriers.

They have a face book page.

Critical Mass Johannesburg.

BCC is OK if you stick to the yellow route sections. Lots of twisty slow riding. Red route is out with the kid in the back. Start with green route to get the taste of the track.

Modderfontein has loads and loads of Jeep track that should be suitable for you. Start with the Orange Route and progress to Green route. Yellow, Red and Black  are not suitable.

Huddle Park easy route is also OK but can get muddy and slippery at times.

All these are Safe Routes (No Attacks reported to date.)

Thanks for the awesome feedback guys. Modderfontein is 5min away from work for me, so I was going to check that out at some stage too.

I'll go and check out BCC first though. So far my daughter is digging being a pillion during our afternoon rides in the complex, lets hope that extends to trails too!

With a fair bit of travelling. All three pretty close to one another...Northern Farm is family friendly. Cradle moon is awesome - get to see wildlife. Then there's Avianto. All "bike & trail run" parks. Secure and with great facilities and trails. Post activity you can grab cappuccinos and breakfast.

Rosemary Hill is a bit of a trip for you - but probably the most family friendly trails around. They are extremely well kept, no hills, and nothing technical - but at the same time still interesting and fun to ride. The vibe there is also really nice and the restarurant and play areas will keep the whole family entertained for a long time.

Big Red Barn is also one to keep in mind. Some kid friendly trails, loads of beginner friendly trails as well as a decent coffee shop and enough entertainment for the young one.

BCC i would stick to shorter route, the others have twisty forest sections that will make it difficult to negotiate and also hold up others.

There is also a route at Boksburg stadium, start is at the bottom of the soccer field, plenty of wide gravel track and easy to ride.

Make no mistake, the modderfontein trails starts with quite a down hill followed by a steepish concrete uphill. and that's just the start. So if you are new and unfit you going to suffer on all the ups and downs...

Would suggest you start at BCC - go to the pro shop and purchase your entry, and enjoy the ride. Stay off the red trails  and stick to the green.

Boksburg stadium has some trails that are also flat and easy as said above.

Enjoy your riding first before going to modderfontein as those hills for a new rider can be a bit taxing.
